<p>I am not a citizen of US, so I thought that the recommendation letter of guidance counselor of international students should be different.
How should it look like? I mean does counselor mention about you only facts, such as school report, or ranking, etc. or should she/he write a recommendation, where would be described events in which you showed leadership?
I have not sent invitation to the counselor on commonapp. if you are able to make me understand this process, please, help. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.</p>
<p>These are the forms involved in applying through the common app.</p>
<p>The school report form is the one your counselor uses to write your recommendation. Print it out so you can see the categories. They rank your performance in various areas and can write on the form about you. Your counselor will upload your transcript, fill out and upload the mid year and final school report. </p>
<p>The teacher evaluation form is the teacher rec form.</p>
<p>You probably will need the international school supplement form</p>
<p>I suggest you click on each PDF and look at the form and print those that will be required so you are familiar with them even though the forms are intended to be filled in on line. </p>
<p>Who ever is going to do the counselor part, you select and fill in the email address and request that person do the counselor rec so they have access to your application.</p>
<p>Thank you Lakemom.
What about international school supplement form? I mean, it should be uploaded on commonap together with school report, yes? Besides this, midyear report should be sent as soon as scores are available and final report after graduation from school, right?
But there is written predicted results of final report, how do counselor should stance to this form? Final examination is not held by school, the ministry of education of my country does that.
One more question if I don’t bother you: my school does not provide rank, but have better scores than anyone, what can counselor do in this case? What about the GPA, should the conselor convert our scores to 4.0 scale? Or just write maximum score and my earned points out of that? and difference weighted and unweighted GPA. Can you explain me this concept? Furthermore, % ranking, as some books are saying, is not good for applicant, because you may be 1st in your school, but when ranking does not exist counselor is forced to write top 10% for example, and it has a bad impact on your application. Cannot she just write my GPA, not ranking and percentile? Because my school does not provide them :(.
And should counselor mention in recommendation my awards that had affected the school? I mean, my accomplishments had imprtance for my school’s name. My school does not have any AP or IB classes, so what can I write down thre, honor classes, or what?
Thank you in advance for your help, I think my circumlocation already disturbed you :)…
Thank you again, hope, you can help.</p>
<p>I actually have no idea about the international form, I just assume you need it. Print it out so you can look at it and maybe show your counselor and ask. </p>
<p>Midyear report is sent after those grades are in. Here it would be after Jan. I believe schools want it by March.</p>
<p>Final year report is obviously your final grades but really, only the school you choose to go to is going to get that so tell your counselor where you were accepted. </p>
<p>Ask your counselor to include in their recommendation that you are the top student in the school out of # of students. Our HS doesn’t report rank either. </p>
<p>GPA scale is based on how your school does it. Our HS has weighted grades but they still use a 4.0 scale because an A is “4.0”. Some schools use a 5.0 scale ask your counselor. A weighted grade can still be over 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. Report your weighted grade if you have that. The school will see by your transcript that you have taken honors classes. </p>
<p>Your counselor is supposed to send to the school a sort of school lowdown sheet on the types of classes that your school offers so the colleges will know that your HS doesn’t offer AP classes. </p>
<p>Have a talk with your counselor about what they are going to put on the “school report” form which is where their rec goes . Print out the PDF so you can see the categories and there is a section for the counselor to write. Write out questions for your counselor about whether or can they mention the areas you want in their rec. Yes the counselor can mention any awards or anything you think you want in there if they are willing. </p>
