Guys vs girls in education

Here's something I was thinking up in the shower when comparing myself to my sister.

Argue whether or not you agree with my statement:

Although the gender role of women has been greatly challenged and women now occupy more positions of power and work than before, it is still more important for a man to get a good education than a woman, because it is still more expected for the man to make more money.

PLEASE NOTE: I'm not saying that this is what's right or how things should be, just saying that as a freshman going into college, this is the perception I have on society.

"Here's something I was thinking up in the shower when comparing myself to my sister."

This is the most disgusting thing I've read in a long time.

I don't really see why. I think about all sorts of things in the shower.

Now that the female to male ratio in colleges are becoming more even (50/50), still - don't many of the women give up their jobs after having kids to become stay at home moms?

Also, bum dads are becoming a trend in society - where the women bring home the bacon and the dads stay at home. (watch the movie Juno)

Wow, even as I write this post I found myself being stereotypical. Stay at home dads are frowned upon in society...

When the women has financial leadership in the family. No matter how significant, the man must obey and submit to this women. (not really <--- do you realize how ridiculous this sounds)....but in reality, that man has to respect the women ever more so because she wields the financial hammer.

that is, you look at it, how important does her income contribute to familial financial stability. the greater the importance, the greater the dominance of the women, the greater the expectation is the man to bring for the meat and the money.

its has been in our genetics for thousands of years. Dominance of the XY chromosomes is exhibited methodically throughout the generations in every single kind of species imaginable. GO XY! USA USA USA. hooahh

Do you often compare yourself to your sister in the shower?

I think they make pills, or pumps for your problem.

There are actually more women attending and graduating from college than men, at this point in time. There is no longer a fifty-fifty split, women are beginning to become the more educated sex.

I do agree that men are still expected to provide for their families on a financial level, but if the current trend in education grows, that is going to be more difficult. I think the average woman now still expects a man to act like a provider, but they don't implicitly expect to be provided for.

Having a degree doesn't mean much to be honest. The majority of millionaires in this country 80% of them are self made with only around 10% of them with a college degree.

Actually it's more like 90% of millionaires do have college degrees.

Getting Rich, Being Rich, And the Secrets of Mega-Millionaires Marshall Reddick’s Blog

Scroll down to the chart titled "America's Rich"

college educations are completely different. Some are basically useless.

just because women graduate from college more, doesn't mean anything.

I agree with the statement the OP said.

and the phead, I think women controls the family weather they have financial power or not... this is shown in nearly all the families I know, and ones i see on tv

Mike, that is not true and I would rather belive the book "The Millionaire Next door", instead of a blog.

They use different definitions. Neither source is wrong, but The Millionaire Next Door is certainly more misleading.

The blog cites [this[/url] book, so I don't know what to tell you. If you'd like to cite a source, I'd be glad to read it, but until then, I refuse to believe that only 10% of millionaires went to college.

Edit: Turn to page 11 of the book you cited, Dr. Horse. It says "Only about one in five are not college graduates" when profiling the millionaires. Here's the link to Amazon's online reader if you don't have it with you.

Dr.Horse- the book "The Millionaire Next Door" reports that 80% of millionaires are college grads, and 38% have advanced degrees. The stats are from 1996, and so are more than ten years dated. I imagine, with the rates of higher education, that percentage will climb. Regardless, I am pretty sure that I read, somewhere, that the stats referenced in that book are skewed.

It is absolute bull that having a degree doesn't mean much. Unless you are one of the few who build and maintain their own business(es), you need to be hired in order to make money, and having a degree makes the difference.
