I don't think it's just a SAT thing though. It has always been said that girls are better at english/history and guys are better at math/science. It's not always true and this thread is indeed pretty pointless, but it's nothing new.

its always been said that<--- true

but I'm not sure if that's accurate. It depends on the environment. For some reason, in my school, there are more girls than boys in all higher level maths, sciences, and generally every higher level subject. Girls do better than boys on math, science, and english Ap's in my school. Also, the girls in honors classes have a higher average SAT score than the guys.
I'm not sure what you can make of that. I think it's purely environmental.

I agree. There's only 4 guys in my AP Government class and there are only like 10 guys (if you include the flambouyant one) in my Ap Calc class while there are like 16 girls in AP Government and 20+ Girls in AP Calc. The same goes for Ap English at my school, there are only 3 guys in a class of 16. Surprisingly, guys outnumber girls in Ap Studio Art at my school (go figure!)

AP English - 4 guys, 15 girls
AP Econ - 9 guys, 17 girls
AP Stat - 10 guys, 9 girls
AP Bio - 7 guys, 11 girls

krazykamikaze, i like the "if you include the flamboyant one"

In my opinion, girls are able to work hard and concentrate a lot better than guys, but when it comes to innate-ness, guys outperform girls (just a bit)
Guys are generally more lazier than girls... comon guys, admit it
(i'm a guy btw)

i agree with appliedmath, except I think that males tend to be better at words. At least memorizing.

appliedmath, it is a known fact that, IN GENERAL, guys are better at math/science/calculation and girls at English/humanities/reasoning, this however does not make guys "elite" compared to girls, and vice versa. your characterization of the verbal as comprehension of "useless paragraphs and [remembering] rar(r)e words] is again saying that math is inherently superior to English, ei Guys are better than Girls.

i hope that your post was meant in jest, because i find it disgustingly sexist. I almost clicked the little "report offensive post" button but thought the better of it, and decided to give you the benefit of the doubt that this was all meant as a joke.

LOL, iplayoboe. As much as we'd like to avoid the stereotype, guys, in general and as a whole, do better in the math and sciences. This of course is probably a result of society. Just look at the way products are advertised to young children and you should see why. Nonethless, just look at the male to female ratio in most institutions. Girls are outpacing guys.

Way overgeneralized.

I'm a guy: 570 Math, 730 Verbal. I'm still a guy...

My classes fit the trend somewhat...

AP Calc- 12 guys, 8 girls
AP Physics- 12 guys, 4 girls
AP Spanish- 7 guys, 6 girls

Generally, girls do better in class and guys do better on tests. I've noticed that girls concentrate so well in class. And I look at them and think, "How are they STILL listening to this lecture?" I think it's the wiring of the brain. That's why guys are more prone to ADD. But when it comes down to it, guys know how to buckle down and kick ass. The mental toughness is there as well, and that helps for tests. Overgeneralization, of course. There are some dudes that takes notes on every single lecture, and some girls who sleep in class.

lol andrew..."im still a guy..." hehehe

meso ..isn't ur classes..opposite of the trend?..arent they sayin there are more grlz..then guys..hmm..ookay?

"meso ..isn't ur classes..opposite of the trend?..arent they sayin there are more grlz..then guys..hmm..ookay?"

I was just talking about the guys tending to be better with math/science trend, not the classes vs. tests trend. Though now that you mention it, I clearly didn't read this thread carefully enough.

I'm a girl... 800 math 790 verbal so booo ya... no stereotyping for me

AP Physics C: 14 guys 2 girls LOL

Hmm.... AP Calc 26 Guys 3 Girls
AP Literature 21 Girls 6 guys
AP Computer Science 32 guys 0 girls (1 dropped out third day)

Iplayobe, don't overreact. You're too sensitive.

dont make such crude remarks and then expect people not to react. if you didnt mean to be so brash, then you should have made a better choice of words. as it were, your comments were inconsiderate.

she is not too senstive..she is in fact right..stop the stereotypin and plus "useless paragraphs"..heh w/e..o yeh and in my ap cal class there were 10 grls 4 boys..but who cares..in ur school i guess the same sex likes to stick together..and i resent the grlz being good in english thing..math is my thing..plus plus..ya know i dont think its gender..no offense to anyone..but i think race plays a bigger part..well actually not race..but the environment and how ur brought up..

wtf is up with people saying that this is somehow sexist or unfair. it's a pretty well established statistic that females score lower on math tests than males. I'm fairly sure that this statistic goes across test lines (ie, it's true on the SAT, the subject test, the APs, and even higher up like the AMCs or AIMEs). You people can go on saying that you don't fit that rule, which may very well be true, but that doesn't chance that statistic. i agree that this topic kind of irrelevant to begin with.

im not upset with the statistic, boys and girls are different, i get that. im just upset with appliedmath's treatment of its "implications"
