As much as you try to disprove the statistics, the fact remains: guys do better on tests. This may be due to a number of reasons, but the general trend is such. Yes, I'm sure individually some girls do better in math and some guys do better in verbal (myself included). The fact of the matter is that, as a whole, GUYS do better on math and science tests and GIRLS do better in English and Verbal. Just look at the male to female ratio at MIT and CALTECH and such. Geezuz, stop denying facts.

God..would u actually read what she wrote b4 u post ur own stuff..she doesnt care bout the statistics..its what he tried to imply..after he stated the statistics...GOSH "GEEZUZ"...will u guys actually read each other's posts..darn it!

800 math 660 verbal... girl.

thanks sexydesi, thats exactly it!

I agree, iplayoboe
I think the stereotypes are mainly cultural...my mom went to Jefferson HS in VA in the late 70's and almost no girls took the upper math courses. It just takes a while for the gap to even out...I think it may, in time.
I'm a girl / humanities person, so I'm left wondering about the "elite" comment. (As well as the "innate-ness" one--it implies that girls are naturally less sharp than boys and get by with school only when they plod through it. That's an excuse some guys I know use in various wordings..."I'm naturally a bit more intelligent, she just works harder to stay on my level.")

Note: I certainly do not mean that all--or even most--guys say that; it's just something I've heard spoken before...

yeah...
Northwestern's CTD Honors Physics course (over the summer) had 3 girls, and like 15 guys (competition??!)

not to mention
AP Euro:
1 guy (me) and 9 girls. Teacher=female

The stereotype is true. It is scientifically proven. Boys' right side of the brain is generally more developed than girls', and girls' left side of the brain is generally more developed than boys'. Because the right side of the brain pertains to logic and the left side of the brain pertains to creativity, in general boys are better at math and science, and girls are superior in English and literature.

Please note that this is only the general picture. Some boys maybe better in literature than girls, and some girls may outsmart boys in calculus. The number of boys vs. girls in AP classes in a particular school doesn't provide a definitive answer because the group on which you base your conclusion is too small. If you consider all the males and females in a country, or even in the world, you'll find that the stereotype is true.

Although what Appliedmath said is offensive, if you dig beneath the repellant surface of his comments you'll find that he is stating a truth. And I'm not agreeing with him because I'm a boy... I'm a girl. However, I don't agree that being great in math makes you "elite." Science and literature are both just subjects--they have equal weights. If you are better at one than the other, then good for you... develop on it and use it as your competitive edge.

well spoken. :)

where the hell do you people go to school. my AP physics calss has like 40 people in it. an AP euro class with 10 people??? I know, I know, private vs. public. Plus, I kinda like having 40 people in my AP physics class; that plus the stadium seating makes it seem more like a college course.

yes but colleges focus more on your ability to write (personal statements, new sat with writing section, etc.) than they do on math skills
in general..and i figured since we're whipping out the generalizations anyhow..might as well bring mine too
ha so girls have an advantage =)

this is totally BS

wow and your post was supposed to do what? make us realize that? i think most of us already do

guy 740 verbal 710 writing.. :P

this should be closed..bcuz i believe geniezclone explained everything nicely w/o takin sides..now lets all get back to cryin bcuz it doesnt look good for kerry..actually..who knows...KERRY!..if bush wins ..im gonna be soooooooooooooo angry..cries

Well BOYS............and yes some girls....Just kidding. We've brought out the best of ourselves. This forum's intention was to serve as a factual reference to those interested, but I guess we enjoy disproving each other. Now it's time for Bush to bring us four more years of prosperity.

heh..sarcasam..i hope so..

Not at all mam.

see thats the problem. you believe your sexist drivvle. your point was well conceived until you made such bull headed "connections and implications" with it. people here are not disagreeing with your statement that boys do better on math and girls on verbal, in fact, almost everybody here flat out agreed with you. until you get to the conlcusion of your thought, which is disgusting. and no, im not too sensitive, its that you are not sensitive enough. how many girls have you honestly dealt with lately? all i can say is that im glad im not one of them

What is this, MTV RoadWArs?
"how many girls have you honestly dealt with lately"
Why exactly do you reference me with "dealing" with girls? I didn't join this forum so I can "Deal with you." I'm here to spread a common thinking and absorb opinion on it.
The last thing I came here to do is waste my time dealing with girls.
