Guess what gender I am.
FEMALE!

or.. I guess according to u, I'm a guy... just me and my parents haven't find out that for 16 years... hahaha;;;

Applied Math: Get a life, you sexist ******. Where is your "proof" of these so-called "facts?"
I'm planning to go into the medical field, and I'm a girl, so does that mean that I'd be a bad doctor because I'm female? Does that mean that you don't trust any woman in a scientific field? Your logic is so flawed and ridiculous I don't even know what to say. This is 2009, not the 1950's.

You just reopened a flame war from 2005...

And I saw your debate with "sexydesi," it is ridiculous that you think that rankings in school measure someone's entire intelligence. And you are truly an idiot if you support bush.
also for everyone saying that men are better at science than women, where is the proof of that? I see people constantly saying "oh that's old news" but where's the proof???????

Dagol: I don't really care, i only saw the thread now and wanted to post. why are you posting on this thread if its from 2005 then?

Despite that your facts are wrong and you are totally biased this does not add up. Take a look at statistics from collegeboard. In reading, males are better than females, and same goes for math but it is opposite when looking on writing. Females are slightly better than men on the writing section.

What we could pick up from this is that the gender does matter to a slight extent. And the difference in results can be from factors such as upbringing and genetics. This does not explain why male tend to pick the science track. It could maybe be explained by some complex theories but not just taking what you have said. If you read a sociology class you would problably have come around the fact that females emphasize more on their articulation and read more books: fiction, and therefore tend to have a wider and bigger vocabulary.

And what helps one in the end has no answer that fits every scenario. Each and every individual will be helped by either "math" or "literature" by the choices he or she makes. Why not have both?

I am myself a mathematician and my reading comprehension is not as good as I would want it to be. Problably because I do not read as much as others and have primarily focused on other mediums (of communication). I am seriously considering taking a year off, just reading and reading; penentrating barriers of vocabulary and gaining strong, and almost flawless reading comprehension, because I do believe it is very important.

Alex Martin, get real.

You're implying that guys are better than girls, which is completely wrong.

In the top 30 students in my class (which includes me), about 24 of them are girls. In every AP class, there are more girls. The top four SAT scores at my school (which I know of and am included in) are girls' scores.

Why don't you think before you make such an ignorant observation?

And Appliedmath, you are completely repulsive.

No one cares about the awards you've acquired in math, your class rank, or your SAT score.

Just so you know, I am a girl who absolutely despises math, but I'm still pretty good in the subject. Albeit, I performed a lot better on my verbal and writing sections, I have been a year ahead in math since the beginning of middle school.

There are also more girls in AP Calculus AB and BC, more girls in AP Physics, and more girls in AP Chemistry. Last year, a girl achieved the highest grade in AP Chem. This year, I achieved the highest grade in AP Earth/Environmental (although some people call BS on the class).

Generalizations do not benefit anybody. We should consider the reality here, which shows that girls are making exemplary progress, yet society still puts the female population down in a myriad of ways.

Since you last posted in '04, I must know if you actually support Bush and his follies now.

Just thought I would contribute my scores
72 critical reading
62 math
male
Yeah...

I think it's completely ridiculous to suggest that either gender is somehow superior. While it is true that guys tend to do better at science/math (at advanced levels), and women tend to do better in English, social studies, etc these differences aren't due to any inherent superiority, but rather the culture in which we live.

This volatile thread is turning into an insults slinging match.
It's closed now.
