The reason you go to college is for a job in the future. How does GW assist undergrads with preparing for this next step? In other words, is their career center helpful? Is there a major alumn network that provides jobs to students after graduation?
If any alumn, current students, or anyone that knows the answer could you please shed some light? Thanks:))
Speaking as an alum (Class 2012) I can say that the career center and alumni network are definitely helpful. There are lots of networking events with alumni (you’ll get periodic emails about it), job fairs, and services that the career center provides.
According to a recent article in the student-run paper, there have been lots of donations towards career development lately, so it’ll be even better than I remember: http://www.gwhatchet.com/2015/10/26/career-services-donors-top-pick-for-big-gifts/
As with a lot of things at GW, however, don’t expect them to spoon-feed you all these great things. The school will make them known the best they can but it is up to you, the student, to take advantage of them.
My d is a freshman this year, but has already attended and been excited by several alum and other career/general events, which you can use to network. She’s learning to stay after and introduce herself/make conversation with speakers and other attendees. She also has her first appointment with career services next week, and if I remember, I’ll post back her response(s). As NHuffer stated, “…don’t expect them to spoon-feed you all these great things. The school will make them known the best they can but it is up to you, the student, to take advantage of them.”
