I was fortunate enough to be admitted to several BS/MD programs and am trying to decide between Miami’s 7 year BS/MD program, GW’s 7 year BA/MD program, and UConn’s 8 year BS/MD program.
I enjoyed the atmosphere of all three schools, and could see myself at any of the three programs.
However, could someone give me guidance on which program is “better” in terms of
- Residency matches
- Quality of the medical program/school
- Opportunities in research and clinical experiences
Thanks so much in advance!
Assuming you are truly committed to being a physician, and there isn’t a huge cost difference (or cost isn’t a factor), I would choose Miami’s 7 year BS/MD program. Among your choices, Miami excels in all 3 areas that you listed. You can google their match lists.
All 3 are in the same ballpark (mid-tier schools as far as reputation goes) with the slight edge to Miami, especially if you’re interested in opthalmology. UConn’s match list is a little vague because they hide the # that matched into each institution so hard to compare but they all look to be similar caliber with GW’s not looking as good as the others’. But honestly, they’re close enough in rep that other factors like $$ and fit should predominate. Miami does look like the best of your choices though, as Roentgen suggests.
