GW or UMCP

Hi guys,

So after turning down by Georgetown, I'm left with GWU and UMD. Forget about the cost, from a stand point of academics, which school would you guys pick for business (finance and international business). Also, I plan to get my MBA at a top business program, which school would be better in preparing me for this goal?

Why did you turn down Georgetown?

both schools offer excellent academics, and both schools are well known for their social life.

GW being in DC might make it easier to get relevant internships, but I know students from both schools who have done well.

Which school atmosphere appeals more to you? They are very different places.

And finances should matter somewhat, as a top MBA is very expensive–I know that my daughter in law’s tuition at MIT/Sloan for her MBA was approximately $125,000, not including the opportunity cost of her lost income (she had a very good job before attending) plus the fact that they have been living on my son’s salary alone for the past two years.

Also, something you may not realize as a high schooler is that most top MBA programs generally favor applicants who have worked for a few years after completing their undergrad degrees–students straight out of undergrad are not looked at favorably by most top programs because they do not have the seasoning and perspective that come from having worked in the real world.
