Political events and speakers are indeed everywhere around GW and DC. Really, there are so many events it would be impossible to find time to go to them all! Everything in DC is pretty accessible too; I feel like the vast majority of events are free and open to the public, and our metro/bus system can get you pretty much anywhere.

I was very involved with a political organization on campus my first and second year at GW and went to a LOT of events (at least 2/week). I was very involved with the primary campaign, attending events and volunteering as my schedule allowed. Senior year though a lot of people, including myself, were more focused on their own jobs/grad school apps/etc. and had less time to be as involved as we once were. However, I still went to a ton of election-related events, and traveled to two other states to campaign. I also know of about 10 people who took the semester off to work on the presidential campaigns last fall.

The night Barack Obama got elected, I joined hundreds of other GW students in celebrating in front of the White House, which turned into a huge party with thousands of people. And inauguration weekend was amazing. Literally everyone I knew braved the cold to see it. That whole weekend was truly an amazing experience- definitely one of the most memorable things from my time at GW.

The best would probably be JBKO or Munson, followed by Guthridge and 2109 F St… However, quite unfortunately, transfers get assigned to housing last. This can be either bad or good: bad is that you will get stuck in Mitchell (all singles, community bathroom), good would be that you fill a spot in an upperclassmen dorm because that’s all that’s left.

I suggest you check the housing rates for sophomore dorms before you make any choices. There is a $2000 difference between some of the choices which might matter to you or your parents.

Multitasker, thanks for answering. Can you tell me where you saw that, I’ve been trying to find about it online but could not find anything. Can anyone who knows about the CI for international students tell me about it/ I do remember reading somewhere that the CI would be a week before classes but I can’t remember where and cant find it again anywhere! It does not seem to be on the CI website or am I being blind? thanks for the help

alex_h: In the section you see all the dates choices, there will be a line that says “international students” and that is where you’ll find it. It is under the CI tab, I am pretty sure of that.
Otherwise, feel free to call the CI office, and they will be happy to help you. I hope it answered your question, good luck!

Do we have to do Math placement test during First Class–June 1st? Cuz as far as I saw the web said that “The mathematics placement test is available online and may be taken at any time from any location where there is world wide web access.” ?

“First Class” refers to the program on Blackboard that guides you through the registration process. The math placement test is available online through blackboard, and yes you can take it anytime after it becomes available. I’d suggest doing it before you register for classes if you are planning on taking math first semester.

Posted this comment under SAT II waiver, but it fits here better. The other day I got on blackboard just to see what it was like and I think that I got to read the First Class thing. Has anyone else seen what I saw? And if you did, is that what we’re supposed to see on June 1st?

Obviously I have no way of knowing what you can/can’t/are supposed to see on Blackboard, but I can tell you that First Class is not a big deal whatsoever. It doesn’t contain any top-secret information; it just tells you (albeit, in a very confusing manner) guidelines for choosing and registering for classes. The placement tests I think are listed under separate items in Blackboard, and may not be available yet. Not that you would want to cheat on the placement tests anyway; you’d only be screwing yourself, because if you place into too hard of a level you will get a bad grade in that class.

GW Senior: I just wanted to thank you in the name of all of us, entering and continuing students for your insights; it has taken a lot of the anxieties away!
I am not sure when you’ll stop posting, so I wanted to make sure you know you are appreciated. Good Luck in Law School!

Aw thanks multi. I should probably take this opportunity to note that I’m not actually a GW senior anymore- I’m an alum! Graduated two weeks ago :)

Anyway, I will probably keep answering questions through August, but then I am moving out of DC and starting law school, so I don’t know how much time I will have then. But if anyone ever does have a specific question, feel free to PM me!

And incoming freshmen, have fun at CI and get excited about becoming a colonial!

I, too, would like to thank you for all your help thus far in this thread. You have really helped me in the decision process for this school and I plan to apply in about 7-8 months. Good luck in law school! :)
