GYM

Hi this isn't really about high school life but …

Does gym get averaged into your GPA because i heard it gets taken out and I'm just wondering because i wanna prepare myself for a lower GPA on my transcript if thats true

Some colleges recalculate your GPA and only include academic classes. Other places just look at your transcript without recalculating anything. It doesn’t matter either way because low grades in academic classes are going to look bad whether gym is calculated into your GPA or not.

take gym online

@long2181998- I have high school student age kids who take online classes but you do understand the irony of your post.

i know the irony and its not like i am using gym to boost my average cause its a 98 UW and i was just wondering because i know they don’t even look at it.

At my school it’s not even on our transcripts. We just have to “pass”. So most people go enough times to get the 65 they need to pass.

@HeisAidanD I wish I went to your school :frowning:
At my school, gym is not only graded based on run times and “sports skill tests”, but is also factored into GPA. Therefore my B in gym last semester dropped my class rank by a good amount.

I’d cry @crazybobl‌

My school doesn’t factor P.E. classes into GPA (although you do have to take 3 semesters to graduate) and although it is graded, it doesn’t appear on a high school transcript at my school. Gym class is really easy at my school, anyway, so it’s not like it matters. I have a 100 in the class just by showing up on all of the days and trying hard enough to make it look like I know what I’m doing (and I’m nowhere near an athlete).

I agree. Gym is pretty easy in my school, and it is calculated into your GPA. However, one time in gym, my teacher was pissed that some students didn’t do any of the work the day before, and so she decided to give us a pop quiz. I got a 40 on it (since it was made to fail the kids who didn’t do any work), and because of this, my grade is a 92 in gym as of now. I know I will get it up by the end of the semester, but it kills me when I see that grade.

Fearing low grades in gym (which in turn would ruin GPA) is exactly why I’ve heard of students intentionally injuring themselves to somehow get medical excuse from the mandatory classes (not in my school but I believe it was somewhere else on this site) so they could in fact also have more room for accelerated classes (AP, IB, etc.).

Gym is in our transcripts and it lowers your weighted GPA because it’s a general class. You have to take it all 4 years and the only way you can get out is if you’re in a varsity sport.
