Trying to help someone in community...student in nj high school with an H4 immigration status...appears not eligible for any government financial aid but what about private college financial aid?
Are they considered international students generically or because here in the states and in a us public high school they are treated differently?
Any list of schools that are financial aid friendly for this situation in nj or reasonably close?
Thx!

This person will be considered an international student and is not eligible for federal or state aid. However, the student may be eligible for institutional aid. Since most schools are not need blind to international students, the ability to pay will be a factor in the admissions process.

As I stated in my original post, I am aware that the student will not be eligible for government aid – I wanted to know more info about private schools that may be “international friendly” and whether there is any knowledge of them near NJ. Also, the fact that the student is in the US, attends a US public high school, etc., does that change how schools would treat the student vs. someone applying from overseas?
Thanks!!

The student’s academic records and ECs will probably be evaluated in line with local HS peers. The aid issue will be handled by the people who decide aid for international students.

The experts on aid for international students are in the International Students Forum. Try contacting b@r!um who often posts on that issue. She has good ideas about finding the aid a student might need.

There are 3 different kind of international students:

Students who are US citizens/permanent residents/eligible non citizens attending School out side of the US (schools are need blind for these students, however, they are evaluated in the international pool of candidates)

Students who are not US citizens/permanent residents/eligible non citizens who attend school in the US (majority of schools are not need blind for these students making the ability to pay a factor in the admissions process. Their applications are read by the regional admissions rep but they are evaluated with the international pool of candidates).

Students who are not US citizens/permanent residents/eligible non citizens who donot attend school in the US (majority of schools are not need blind for these students making the ability to pay a factor in the admissions process. They are evaluated with the international pool of candidates).
