I'm wondering what is a good course to fulfull the additional english requirement for Haas. I'm currently a sophomore who has done r1a but is locked out of r1b this semester due to all the classes being filled. If anyone who has taken a good class for this requirement could tell me which they took, I'd really appreciate it, because the Haas website isn't even very clear about what sort of class you should take at all. Thanks.

I took Asian Am 20A, it was probably the easiest class I took my first year.

But you can take any writing/literature course from African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicano Studies, Classics, Comparative Lit, Dramatic Art, English, Native American Studies, Rhetoric, and Suth Asian Studies. It also must be 3 units.

Do something easy, thus helping your GPA. I've heard AA20A is really easy as well.

Just don't take classes in the English, Rhetoric, Comp Lit departments, because those classes are much harder in terms of their standards of writing.

Thanks for your replies guys... it looks like AAS20A fits right into my schedule, but I only have one question: Does it help a lot (and I'm not at all trying to be stereotypical) to be of asian descent in this class, in order to have a background on the subject? I myself am of middle eastern descent and am not familiar with this type of history... but if you guys would know that would be great.
