Hi,
I had an interview with a LAC alumna recently–at the time I arranged and participated in the interview I was very serious about applying and hopefully attending that school, however I’ve recently discover a lot of information about the school that makes me realize I would not be a good fit/it’s the not the right place for me.
I feel horrible to have wasted the interviewer’s time, but can I not apply to the college now? I had every intent when of applying when I was interviewing and I only discovered the information within the last week.
Now that I don’t want to go there, I’d rather not spend the $60 to apply…nor do I want to possibly earn a spot with no intention of attending while someone else would really like to go there.
Other than bad karma, (selfishly) could this screw me over for any other applications? Do colleges talk to each other about stuff like this?
Any thoughts appreciated!
Thanks.
Please don’t worry about this. I am sure it happens a lot. During my visits to colleges this summer, I interviewed at each college that required or recommended one. I intended to apply to those colleges and certainly indicated that during my interviews. However, I needed to cut down my list this fall and two of those colleges are off my new list. Colleges do not have the time or interest in following up on things like this with other colleges. You’re fine!
It might be polite to send their admissions office a really nice “it’s not you; it’s me” note. It’s probably the right thing to do, plus the world is big - but not that big.
You don’t need to send anyone anything. The purpose of the interview was informational. You got the additional information. You discovered this school wasn’t a fit. No problem at all. As long as you thanked the interviewer for his or her time, you did all that you were expected to do.
