Out of curiosity, why do people care when famous people come to NYU? Why does it matter? It certainly doesn't do anything to improve the quality of the education or residential life.

I don't know. Maybe it's not obvious to me because I'm not a celebrity person. Sure, Osmont's got talent, but that shouldn't make him any more important than anyone else.

shades, that was exactly the point I was trying to make. Most famous kids want to be left alone and not hounded by fans or by people who think they can get an 'in' in the business. They don't want to be 'any more important than anyone else'.

I agree with Matth. You can tell elij is a total Sternie...that's a great "business" rather than "respect for their personal privacy" outlook you have. haha.

thanks for the personal attack lindseygs, thank you for categorically stereotyping me as well, but nevertheless....i'm not out to make money in the film industry, i'm writing a screenplay which is a story worth showing, a movie worth making, and it is hard to break in to the business. Sorry for being an opportunist, but I'm not writing this screenplay for money, if you had the slightest clue about he film industry, you would understand what i meant...but again...as i said i think twice before...let's drop it...the screenplay is enough of a headache without this trivial nagging.

Actually eji, getting a screenplay read isn't as hard as you are making it out to be. Sure it is hard to get a big name celebrity to read it, but if you are wanting it to be made into and indi film having any contacts at all can pretty much get your script read and passed on if it is really good.

Ya, its not nearly as hard as you make it out to be. My uncle is a writer in Los Angeles and has been invovled in a number of projects that have been both aired and not. I dont know if its just me, but Ive grown up around "celebs" and let me tell you, anybody who thinks approaching them simply to say "Hey, love your work, you dont know me, but do me a favor and waste a number of hours reading my screenplay. Oh, and if you can, why dont you just forward it to a director or something." That just doesnt work - period. Hell, I know people in the academy and they will all tell you scripts just do not find their breakthrough by random engagements with movie stars. Im not attacking you eji, but im bringing you down to earth - your chances of even seeing him are going to be slim.

Sorry if my argument that you should care about another person's privacy more than pursuing your career goals (as a college freshman) was intrusive and uneducated, as I know nothing about the film industry. I beg your forgiveness for my utterly horrible "trivial nagging". Now pardon me while I laugh my proverbial ass off as you console your bruised ego.

forget it, i'm not wasting my time....but anyway...actors/directors dont read the screenplay...they read what is called a treatment....which is 4 pages max first...so please stop pretending to be authorities on the business

Outono Noite, amen to your statement about how approaching celebrities does not always work. I'm from Los Angeles and know celebrities that feel EXACTLY as you described: turned off (or at least apathetic) when one approaches them about career networking.

eji, do as you please. Just know that it's not exactly the most respectable approach nor is it likely to be effective.

And by the way eji, as a freshman who has absolutely no film experience (and clearly no experience in the industry) you have no authority on the topic either. Just because you have read about how the "industry" works doesnt qualify you as a pro. I can throw around buzz words too and make myself look like im a seasoned writer.

As I mentioned before, my uncle is a professional writer with scripts written for Friends, Will and Grace, etc... a neighbor that works for the academy (and writer for Malcom in the Middle), and others that act - I know what it takes to be discovered and throwing your "treatment" at a kid will never work. Oh, and having this mindset of "I will do what I very well please" will get you nowhere - I cant wait to see people laugh at you when you try to throw your unprofessional and novice work at them.

eji, did it ever occur to you that there may be people on this board who are enrolled in the dramatic writing department? Who have had their work read and accepted into the school by professors? Why not start there first, hmm? If you have what it takes then maybe, just maybe you can transfer from Stern. But realize that a life in the arts is like joining a nunnery or priesthood in many ways. And being humble can be an asset.

wow, i don't know where my arrogance came in, but nevertheless...i never said i was a professional in the industry, but i bet i know more about screenplay structure than anyone in intro to screenwriting at tisch, but again....i have to say, people have come onto this board with fire.....a lot of you have a bad attitude....but again....can we drop it, and the rest of you go on marveling over HJO....b/c i'm sure he'd rather want to give away auto's than talk about a prospective project....but again....i'm not going for independent film for those who brought that up. My eye is on a fish bigger than HJO....

I bet he wont even come to NYU and its all just a rumor. And really, who cares? We have professors at NYU who are FAR more famous and have achieved things many others never will - why arent we crazy about them? Haha - thatd be weird.

Well we DO know that SOMEONE famous is coming to NYU as a part of the film/tv program. I've heard it's HJO too, but I don't know how much truth there is to that rumor. I'm gonna be in the film/tv department though, and whoever it is, I'm looking forward to hopefully getting to meet him (do know it's a guy) or maybe have a class with him, just because I think it'd be cool to get to see the projects of someone who has been around all this professionally, you know? Not in a stalkery sense =) If it is HJO that'd be neat cuz he's kinda cute haha.
