Half-siblings and step-siblings on College Apps

I have a ton of half/step-siblings but I don't really spend time with most of them. I was just wondering if it's really worth the time of putting all 6 of them in.

I have one that I've spent the all of my life with but she's about 30 now.

On my dad's side I have 4 half-siblings and 1 step-brother but I'm completely independent from him. He doesn't have custody of me and never has and his and my mother's incomes don't intermingle at all.

Should I still add them? Any help is appreciated! This question was asked on the Common App, by the way.

How much time will it take? Less than 30 minutes? Why not? How much time did this post take?

I’ve always wondered what a “ton” meant these days! I guess it means six!

I would say its up to you. You don’t have to, I wouldn’t unless you already know your information and they have good education history.

I had the same problem, I included mien.

I’ve wondered why colleges care. For financial aid, it does make a difference (EFC), but that is a separate application. The only things I can think of:

1) If you are a first time college student for your family (parent’s didn’t go, siblings didn’t go), they cut you some slack

2) On the other side, if your older brothers/sisters go to challenging colleges, then it is likely you can handle it too.

3) If you are from a large family, you may have spent a lot of your free time helping to take care of the family.

Thanks for any help that was given! I feel like some comments were a little unneeded though…
I called my local CC and they answered my question. All-in-all the financial aid office agreed with my gut instinct and told me not to add my half-siblings or father since he never has custody of me, doesn’t pay child support, and the majority of my other siblings are his kids. I am adding my mother and sister since she’s her child just in case anyone else happens to stumble upon this and needs help :)
