Siblings??

On collge applications, under the family information section, a lot of colleges ask you to list your siblings. If my parents are divorced and my dad remarried and had other kids, should I list them as siblings or not?? Thanks in advance!

Yes, half-siblings are siblings for most purposes.

Depends if they are living with you or if your dad having to support them and put them through college will affect his ability to pay for yours

I keep trying to figure out how to list all of mine -- there are six! Eep! Usually you just get room for three. Oh well.

I can only think of two reasons why anyone would care: legacy status and financial aid. Some college will give legacy consideration if you have a sibling already attending the college. The definition of legacy varies from college to college. Any FA consideration would come later when you fill out those forms.

Well, look at my case: I'm the only kid living at home now, but having six older siblings shows why my parents were never able to really save up for my college tuition. Since they're not included on my FAFSA form, putting them on at least the application might help a bit. Who knows.

You should ask on the finan aid forum. I don't believe that siblings affect the EFC very much unless they are currently in college, but I'm not sure.

For financial aid purposes siblings are only taken into consideration if parents are also paying for them to attend college as an undergrad or secondary school.
