halp, internetz.

Let me break it down for ya: I am a second semester junior, I am relatively lazy but I work hard when it matters, I have no idea what I'll major in, and I need to figure out where I'll be applying.

Since my vague ambitions only include "Become rich and famous", I'd prefer a school with a wide range of studies (however, if you really want to know, I think doing something in television or movies would be kind of awesome.) In school I've taken the hardest classes available, and I've kept my rank in the 1-2 range. My extracurriculars aren't terribly deep; they mostly consist of amassing volunteer hours and what you see below.

In a college I'm really looking to find someplace either in or near a big city, with lots of things to do. Nothing in the south, as I think the last 17 years of being surrounded by southern accents is quite enough. Cost is a large factor, but prestige is not (completely.) I don't mind state schools with good reputations, but I know those are just as hard to get into as privates. I don't harbor any illusions of grandeur as to whether or not I'll get into Harvard, though that would be nice. Currently, I really like Northwestern, and I'll definitely be applying to UT-Knox as one of my safeties. Other than that, I have no idea where to start. I recently ended my love affair with UChicago, because while I love learning, I don't think 'intense' is right for me. LACs are great, but I wouldn't want a school that's too small.

You never really gave criteria on what you’re looking for in college, besides that you want to be near a city with lots of things to do, you’re a relatively strong student academically, and you want a school where you can pursue lots of different things. You said you want do something with TV or movies, but you can’t really do that in a liberal arts college, unless you take something like film studies. What do you mean by a wide range of studies? You can’t study business at Swarthmore, for example. Have you looked at the University of Washington Honors program? The UW has a gorgeous campus, and in the honors program you’ll be taught by good professors and be around more students who take academics seriously but not too seriously. It’s in Seattle so there are plenty of things to do.

Haha, I never was good at the clarification thing. Let’s see.

-Located in/near city (lots of things to do)
-Wide range of studies (irritatingly vague, but since I don’t know what I’m interested in, I’m open to many suggestions  )
-Not necessarily ivies - I’m especially looking for state schools with good reputations
-Student body of more than 1000
-Not expensive - I’m going to have a lot riding on scholarships

UW-Honors was a great suggestion, thanks. Is the above any better?
