Hamilton College. Chances?

So I visited campus this past weekend and fell in love with everything about Hamilton! I will definitely be applying ED

I'm a junior from MA and attend a highly-ranked public high school.
Class Rigor: All honors classes freshmen year (highest level offered)
Sophomore: AP Euro AP Biology and the rest honors (highest level offered)
Junior: AP Chem, APUSH, AP Language and Comp and the rest honors (again, highest offered)
Senior year I'll be taking 4-5 AP's, I haven't decided what yet!

Scores: 5 on AP Bio and 4 on AP Euro. 710 on Bio SAT subject test

GPA: weighted: 4.2 UW: 3.7 < not 100% sure. My high school doesn't calculate them so I did myself. Hopefully this will go up!

ACT: 30 (i know this is rather low for here, but I plan on retaking and hopefully raising!)

EC's

Violin: School Orchestra since 5th Grade. I've been first chair throughout.
NEC youth orchestra: I've done this the past 3 years, very competitive orchestra
private lessons for the past 8 years.

Viola: I play Viola in a few of the pieces for my school orchestra

Piano: Kindergarten- present.

Guitar: I've played for over 5 years but I don't take lessons, I teach myself.

Tennis: School tennis team JV in 9th and 10th grade, Varsity in 11th grade.

Field Hockey: Freshmen and Sophomore year on JV

Clubs: I've peer tutored since middle school. Microfinance Club, SADD, Peer Leaders, UNITE Leadership, Math club, NHS

Leadership: I'm on student council, Secretary of Microfinance and NHS president. UNITE is a leadership club we had to apply to be a part of.

Volunteering: I volunteer at a hospital once a week for 4 hours. Over 200 hours thus far. I love it and want to pursue medicine!

Work: I work at a tutoring center year round (except for the spring during tennis) and scoop ice cream over the summer! I teach tennis to little kids during the summer too and babysit!

I plan on majoring in either Biology or music :)
Thanks in advance!

Well this year, 43% of ED applicants were accepted. Your obviously are a very good applicants. Try to raise your ACT , and spend alot of time on your essay and I am confident you will be Hamilton’s Class of 2017

Oh wow, that’s significantly higher than RD. thank you for sharing that info, it makes me feel much better  I’ll work on the ACT. thanks!!

anyone else?

I don’t think a 30 ACT is low at all…I think improving is always better, but as of now you are right on target. And how highly ranked is your high school? That could make a big difference and do even more for your chances.

Thanks for the input! we’re number 2 in the state actually. The thing about my school is everyone is super smart… the average GPA for people accepted to Hamilton is a 4.4 weighted and the average ACT of those accepted was a 32. So yeah I feel like relative to others at my school, Hamilton isn’t a match :frowning: Will this hurt my chances?

bump! let’s try this one more time…

I honestly m not sure how much a dfference it makes in terms of you compared to your school, but I do think that with tour stats you look like a fit to me!

We heard Hamilton’s orchestra’s rehearsal and they were excellent …Make sure you do a music CD/supplement and maybe visit again on a day when the orchestra rehearses so you can meet the conductor and hear for yourself.

thanks! Yeah, chemusic, my tour guide mentioned how awesome the orchestra is. I would love to do that! I believe they allow you to audition for the orchestra by sending a CD with your application. I definitely plan on doing that :)

Be sure to submit a CD/recordings at any other schools you apply to. Since you have a year, why not check out other LAC’s with good orchestras such as Vassar, Wesleyan, Williams, Skidmore and Franklin & Marshall. (Those are only the ones whose orchestras we have heard - there are more out there). It is easier to double major in biology and music at Vassar and Hamilton (due to fewer distribution requirements at these two). Hamilton is great, but there might be another school that you also feel comfortable at - and it is good to have a plan B reach, match and safety…
