HAMILTON COLLEGE CLASS OF 2021 ED I THREAD

Thanks merc81! That is helpful

Accepted!!! So excited to join the class of 2021!

Good luck from Northwestern 2021 ED thread. No matter the results, know that you are amazing and you deserve everything!

hey guys! ccongrats to everyone who got accepted!

could I ask how your interviews went? im having mine very soon

@camwow Yeah, I got in and interviewed. I think mine went really well. We were supposed to talk for 30 mins, but it went almost an hour, and we were really friendly by the end. Essentially they just have a conversation with you about what you put on a sheet (extracurriculars, major of interest, etc.). Before you interview think a little bit about what you like and why you like it and during the interview try to have a conversation. PM me if you have any questions.

@MomInSB , may I ask you your son’s stats? My daughter’s dream school is Hamilton but her stats and extracurricular don’t look as stellar as many of the applicants on this thread so I think it unlikely she would get in. However, maybe a Jan admittance would be a possibility. She is a junior this year.

@elenaclaire828 how the heck did you get deferred with your amazing stats?! I have little hope for my own daughter next year if you didn’t get in. She doesn’t have nearly your stats. Any insight into why?

@frutsun : Hamilton reports a middle-range ACT for attending students of 31-33. The majority (62%) of applicants who apply with an ACT score in the OP’s (excellent) range will be denied.

Sure, although we haven’t prepared any stats like other folks on this website. I believe he has a 3.5 unweighted/3.7 weighted gpa, and is a few years ahead in math and science. He goes to a very competitive private boarding school that doesn’t offer AP classes. He does dance, theater, and choir, and some interesting community service. He got a 680 WR and a 740 M on the SAT. I believe his biggest assets are - the school he attends is well known to Hamilton and it’s graduates have been very successful there, he had a really lovely interview, his recommendation letters were glowing about his kindness and his energy and enthusiasm in the classroom. His gpa is probably low for Hamilton, and he is very young for a senior, so we were surprised and pleased that he was accepted. The extra time will probably be very good for him!

@frutsun As I’ve calmed down over the past couple weeks, I’m kind of at peace with the fact that the college admissions process is far from an exact science. At a tiny school like Ham, there are only a few spots open for ED after the recruited athletes, legacy kids, and valedictorians get their acceptances! My deferral could’ve resulted in any number of personal errors, but I have to believe that if they hated what they saw from me, I would’ve been outright rejected. At the end of the day, just like my application isn’t defined solely by my number, neither is your daughter’s. I’d attend Hamilton in a heartbeat if ultimately accepted, and you should encourage your daughter to apply ED if it remains her top choice. Even though things haven’t panned out the way I wanted them to, I would’ve regretted never even trying.

@elenaclaire828 You sound mature and kind and have a great attitude. Whatever school you end up at will be fortunate to have you. Good luck!

Yes, @elenaclaire828 will be an asset to her school of choice. Let’s hope Hamilton sees the light.

My son just got accepted. Not an athlete, minority, or first generation. Also, not as good a resume as some of those described here. BUT, the one thing Hamilton emphasizes more than other colleges (Williams, for example, explicitly says they don’t consider this) is a frequently used term called “demonstrated interest.” I truly believe the reason my son was accepted was that he wrote to them regularly for the last four years.

@straydog That’s so awesome, congratulations!!! Hopefully, I will be able to join your son at Hamilton in the fall.

Thanks! Will you be at Accepted Students Day on April 17? (I’m hoping you’re accepted by then)

@straydog @elenaclaire828 When I went to Hamilton’s fly in program this fall, admissions officers said that they put emphasis on demonstrated interest!

@straydog I would definitely go to Accepted Students Day, but I have to get accepted first!..which is probably a super slim chance considering I’m already deferred. What is your son majoring in?

Probably math or science. Good luck to you!

Curious how it went - did you get accepted? My daughter was ED2 and currently attending.
