I know these two aren't typically compared, but they are my top choices (Hamilton #1 by far if i can afford it.) I like them for different reasons, but if cost wasn't a factor i would send my deposit to Hamilton right now.

If my appeal with Hamilton comes out the way i hope/ expect, it will cost my family (and myself) $100,000 to $130,000 to attend Hamilton. Le Moyne will only cost me ~$10,000 total for 4 years.

Is it worth the difference to attend Hamilton?

Hamilton is obviously a better school. It’s difficult to put a price on it without knowing your financial situation. It’s really your own decision. If you can afford it without crippling your family’s financial situation (Hamilton thinks you can), then I would probably do it. Perhaps consider applying to a school such as Vassar or Bard that’s also in the area- they may offer a better FA package.

Santeria’s right, it’s up to you. If it were my d, definitely Hamilton. Education is of primary importance to us, worth the money. These are two rather odd choices. Since you are obviously good enough to get into Hamilton, there must be tons of colleges between Hamilton and LeMoyne that would offer you aid.

Well…status is hard to judge. LeMoyne is a fine Jesuit college and gaining in recognition. My D1 attends Fordham but met some people from LeMoyne a few years ago and said they were lovely people and very smart.

There is no shame in selecting a school for financial reasons. And no shame in turning one down for cost. While it may be painful, it may be the best decision, because going into debt for undergraduate school is not wise.

I have the HIGHEST regard for Hamilton. My personal physician went there! LOL. Its a great school. But it is also a tad bit more remote than LeMoyne as well. So consider all of that in the equation.

Nobody can decide for you and your family. Its up to you. I treasure a Jesuit education so I am also biased in that regard. I can assure you that you will be challenged at LeMoyne and likely rise to the top of the class very quickly…and there is value in graduating with high honors.

Ask LeMoyne for stats on grad school placement and law school and med school etc.

Personally, I would take on debt to go to Hamilton over LeMoyne. But, I understand different people make different choices, but I think the quality of school impacts life choices, and I would want to take the gamble/bet on me. I’m worth it. That’s my view.

But, you have to love Hamilton! You have to really want to go there.

^^^^^ agreed. But sometimes people make judgements about colleges just from the USNWR rankings. And that is both unfair and a disservice. There is a difference between LeMoyne and Hamilton. No question. But LeMoyne is a very good school and if you do well there, I suspect that you wont have any trouble with grad schools or finding a job. The Jesuits are very well connected don’t forget.
