Has anyone requested handscoring after QAS results. When we received the results it showed that my son omitted questions 17-25 on the first critical reasoning section. He indicates that he did not omit any on the first CR section(he only ommitted 2 questions on the rest of the test). It also shows a "u" on a question in the math section(the non multiple choice). I am willing to pay the $52, but I am somewhat afraid his math score(which was awesome) might go down. Any advice? Thanks

How many incorrect answers does he have on the math section already? Each incorrect answer deducts 0.25 points from the raw score, but 0.5 and 0.75 are both rounded up. Check to see whether one more incorrect answer would change how the raw score is rounded. If an additional incorrect answer would not change the rounding, then there’s nothing to worry about with the math section.

In my opinion, it’s worth having it hand-scored for the massive number of questions that were marked as omitted on the CR section, as that could seriously increase his CR score in comparison to a tiny decrease (if any decrease could occur at all) in his Math score.

His math score, should stay the same I think, It is in the low/mid 700’s, His critical reasoning score though was only a 450. His practice tests showed about a 520(typical math/science unbalanced boy). It looks as if he were to get 5 of the 9 omitted correct he would get at least a 500. Since these scores are just a first try, and we are hoping that studying over the summer, will help w/ his CR, I don’t really care about the score. It just irks me that they say he omitted 9 when he says he did not. It might be worth the $50 to see whether he just spaced out, and forgot to complete the section, or he didn’t bubble the ovals in sufficiently for the computer to read it… Thanks for your advice

Instead of Hand Scoring you can order a copy of your son’s answer sheet (see the form that came with QAS).

I didn’t see where you can order a copy of the answer sheet. Where would that be in the QAS packet? To all those who messaged me, I am not interested in trading or scanning my QAS, sorry.

I suggest you order a copy of your son’s answer sheet so that you can get the real picture.

I attempted to request a copy of the answer sheet, but was told, that my only oprion was handscoring. Even w/ hand scoring you don’t get a copy of the bubbled answer sheet. This is very frustrating.

Sorry, my advice is dated. College Board used to include that option in the score verification request form - not anymore. :(

Here’s my theory (I’ve heard this happened to the test takers before).
In that CR section there are 5 SC questions followed by two short passages (back to back) - 4 more questions, then one long passage - questions 10-16. In a booklet it looks like the end of the section. But wait! There is more! Turn the page, and there is one more long passage (based on a book published in 2002 about a young woman Harriet Cleve) with 9 more questions: 17-25. It’s possible that your son did not notice that last passage, which would explain unintentionally “omitted” questions.

I echo gcf101’s theory. The same thing happened to my brother the second time he took the SAT: he didn’t realize there was another reading passage to go before the end of the section! Since you have the QAS, ask your son whether he recognizes the passage that he potentially skipped unintentionally.
