I am trying to decide if we should request (and pay for) hand scoring of my son’s November SAT. This was his first time taking the SAT. He got an 800 on math, but only 670 ERW. He had one omitted answer on ERW but he is sure he checked carefully and didn’t leave any answer blank. There is no way to know if the bubble wasn’t dark enough to receive credit and would they give credit if hand checked. We can’t be sure he would have gotten the question correct anyway, but my son feels that chances are it would have been correct. One more correct would give him a 680, he is obviously shooting for much higher than that. He will take the SAT 1-2 more times and will mostly try the ACT so if he gets a higher score next time this would be for nothing but if not it would be too late to request hand scoring (since you only get 5 months and he is too busy in sports to take the SAT again until April). Anyone have any experience or insight? Thanks!
Hand scoring rarely results in a change of score, IME. If you want to spend the $ for peace of mind, do so. For 10 points, I’m not sure it’s worth it.

He will be taking both the SAT again and the ACT! Don’t waste the money for (possibly) 10 more points.
