I just got back my Jan SAT and got much lower than expected on the Math section. Expected 800 or close to 800, but got a 670 :(

Think I will order Hand Scoring, anyone who has experience from this?

Did you compare your answers to those on the consolidated list? They were all correct.

What does that mean? :P

A weird thing. According to the SAT study guide you can only get a 670 if you have omitted answers. (I’ve done some calculations…) If you have 8 omitted answers and no errors, then you have a 670.
Here’s why I think this might be the case:

You can definitely get 670 without omitting any questions.

Here is the consolidated answer list:

8 students in both clubs
60 degrees for the triangle angle inscribed in a cube
75 degrees for the 3:4:5 triangle
42 for the minimum perimeter of the isosceles triangle
0 is the remainder
135 area of quadrilateral
72 members in the band
69 could not be the girl’s class number
(9/4)y is cost per yard
4 routes through F
f(0) + f(a) = f(a)
15/2 for the hose question
1 is radius of sphere inside cube
6 for side of square
1/9 smallest value of x/y
1/12 for probability that 1,2,3 in order
8 for the line with PQRS
A/6 would satisfy the a constant equation
-1/3 is X + Z
I only for Plane Scatter Plot
49 is the area of shaded region with the 5 squares inside of eachother
5^3 = 125
Primes greater than 2, difference = 4 was 7 + 11 = 18
6 and 1/4 inches of text on the paper
1 for d/c+1/2
Sum of 48th and 49th term was 4
140 degrees for x next to bisected angle
x^2-25 = a/2
I only for the combination of the two inequalities
that graph with money made compared to bonus is 3250
x - |y| is always negative
Adding 80 to the average will still have an average of 80
12 for difference between votes on chart (57-45)

Most handscore requests end up with the same score as before. I should know; I’m fluent in French but scored a 740 on the French SAT II in December. I paid CB 50 bucks to get my test rescored, but five weeks later they sent me an email claiming that the original reported score was accurate. Guess I might have misbubbled… ah well, no choice but to take it again in May ;)

I can’t recall any of the answers exactly, so I’m not sure.

7 wrong answers = 660
6 wrong answers = 680

other scenarios = 5 wrong + 2 omitted, or 6 wrong 1 omitted = 670. But it feels weird that I should have omitted 1 or 2 answers, I’m pretty sure I filled the circles correctly. And 8 omitted seems more likely if the hypothetic situation actually occurred :P

I’ll order Hand Scoring tomorrow. But I’ll probably just get the same score atleast I won’t have to live wondering if I suck at math or not :P

How do you know the curve?

I’m just using the scoring in the SAT study guide, I’ve made and “equation” :P.
These are all possibilities. (once again, having 8 omitted could make sense, but omitting only a few seems odd…)

om = omitted, inc = incorrect
670:
8 om, 0 inc
7 om, 1 inc
2 om, 5 inc
4 om, 3 inc
3 om, 4 inc
1 om, 6 inc

The curve in the official study guide could vary from that for the January test.

Yep, silverturtle is right. The curve in the Study Guide is only for the test it follows, due to the difficulty variations.
So don’t always rely on those curves in that book for any random SAT.

Looking at the online reporting of our student’s Jan SAT–

I am puzzled that the “self reported” GPA is .35 lower than the actual GPA…

Also our student believed to have not skipped questions yet one is marked “omitted” in the math and with a few errors in simple sections I am wodnring if our student missed a line and then mis marked…or mis gridded.

Whats the deal on the verification services? Is it worth it if the scores don’t make sense?
Has anyone ever found errors that needed to be corrected? How do we know it was handscored–do we get a copy of anything or just an email?

Are there other add ons that make a difference–Like can I /should I get this Jan score and answers/verification in prep for the June date…

How would a GPA be so wrong??

yeah I noticed too that the GPA was way lower. His scores were dismal too.

Did you actually go through with the verification process? I had a similar experience. I received my scores back and got a 800 writing, 690 critical reading, and a 620 math, but math is my best subject and every practice test I have ever taken has been well into the 700s with math. I had a similar issue with writing my answers in the wrong question and wonder if I just got them out of order or something. I guess I am just wondering if it can be successful.

dont do it!
