Anyone else get a handwritten card from one of the admissions officers at Binghamton?

I thought it was pretty neat that they took the time out to do it. I imagine it to be more feasible at a smaller school, not a larger state school, so maybe only a certain percentage of applicants got one.

And although they tried to tailor it to my prospective majors, I had to laugh. "We have a wonderful art program that suits your needs! We have many performances each year!"

Yes, I'm going to perform my drawings and paintings. ;)

My daughter also got a handwritten letter. I thought it was very nice. They mentioned what she wrote her essay on, and incorporated it in the letter. I thought it was because we are out of state, it seems to me they are trying to bring up their % of out of staters that attend. But I guess I was wrong.

I got one today..basically same thing as in the e-mail.. -_-
well, it felt nice to hv a handwritten but like littlebigs672, still not enough to convince me to attend there,,, by the way im an international

Well, it's a good attempt at recruiting, I guess. A nice touch for a big university. It's something I'd probably keep around, but I'm really happy that I have other places to go.

lowermorelandmom, seems like your daughter did get a really nice letter, as it was so personally relevant.

It really was a nice letter. We haven't visited Binghamton. Right now it looks like her top three choices may be Binghamton, Penn State or Syracuse. She was WL at her first choice. I have read so many negative things about Binghamton, that it worries me. And Syracuse would cost us about $12000 more a year than the other two, and I don't know if its worth it. Any feedback?

I realize this is an old post, but I figured it was relelvent that I got a handwritten letter too about their math program. I wasn't sure if they personalized it because I did mention in my essay that how I like to research and how I would want to work with profs and stuff and they talked about some of the ways I would be able to do that.

It's Bing's way of recruiting. It doesn't seem like it would take much thinking or effort, just to glance through what the applicant wrote down, and apply that to some aspect of Binghamton, put it in a card, and mail it off.

I think the handwritten card is a nice personal touch which may help applicants consider Binghamton. Perhaps they are attempting to raise their yield since Binghamton is a safety for many. For many others it is a secondary choice.
