Is anyone happy with their financial aid package? I got the leadership and trustee scholarship but it still doesn’t cut the cost much. My FAFSA EFC was $9,500 and Penn told me it was $18,000! Almost double. My parents can do $9,500 but I’m not sure about $18,000 and I really want to go to Wharton. Has anyone negotiated their package?

A lot of folks haven't received their packages yet.

Wow i got an awesome finaid package...22,980 scholarship + 4,000 scholarship + 5,000 scholarship. EFC was 11,800 gonna have to drop about 9,500 on my own..uh yeah i will be at wharton in the fall :)

And also Penn's outside scholarship policy is kind of whack. You can't cut your EFC at all with outside scholarship. If you go over your self help portion (work study, student contribution) then they start taking away your grant money. Gtown will let you take away from your EFC and I don't understand why Penn won't either.

i'm not terribly happy either... they want my parents to pay 16000 when dartmouth expects only 7500... i really wanna go to penn though! Do you know if Penn is easygoing with appeals?

really? dartmouth wanted my mommy and daddy to pay 21,000 with work-studies and stuff but penn only wanted 14,000...(~_~)

I qualify for the free tuition for ppl under 50K thing! but i didnt get my package yet!!

Definitely try and negotiate your financial aid package. If you have offers (non-merit) from other schools, use that as leverage to get more money.

I got an incredible offer, I still don't believe it's real. Wharton gave me like 1.5x what everyone else gave me total plus Wharton gave me like basically all grants/scholarship money... I'M PUMPED

I'm very, very happy! The EFC was exactly what my family expected and the loan component is not so bad, only $2200. AND I'm an international student, which makes me feel very fortunate because it's so tough for us to get aid in the US. Go Penn!!

I have not been too satisfied with my package. I applied ED and I hoped that when Penn updated the packages for ED students (yesterday), SFS would give me a better deal. My EFC was around 13K, however they expect my family to come up with 18K. They did update my financial package, however they raised the tuition by a couple of thousand dollars and added more scholarship money. In the end, my family is stille expected to pay 18K. My family did send letters to them explaining our financial situation. My next step is to set up a phone interview with SFS. Hopefully there the phone call is more effective than the letters were. I'm disappointed because I have a feeling that they can do better than what they are giving my family. The package is a bit unfeasible at the moment, but hopefully it will improve.

they gave me an expected of 7,200 back in ED but that surely will go down due to the new 50k policy thing.

i'm from canada which I'm not sure whether I'm an international student or not. I'm worrying my financial aid.

My family income is below $25k, I wonder if the financial amount would able allow me to study.

If possible, could you post the following stats

family income

amount of financial aid in term of loan and aids

actual amount need to pay (for everthing included tution, living etc)

Is the financial aid only in the actual mailed package or can you find out on the Internet? Did the package come U.S. Mail?

It's on your decisions page, to the right w/ the link Penn Online (or something similar)

Extremely Happy! Expected EFC from Penn was 7600, and absolutely no loans, so they gave me 38,980 dollars. My parents make about 70k. Yay....go Penn!

hmm. i wonder how that happened^^. My family makes 58 K, yet my EFC was almost 10 K.

EFC depends on a lot of factors besides just what your family makes. A very important factor is liquidity i.e. how much cash you have.

My family's IRS Adjusted Gross Income is about 8,000. We had a FAFSA EFC of $0 from parents. Penn gave me $35,960 (Leadership) + $4,000 (Pell) + $4,000 (SEOG) = $43,960 in grants. Total cost to attend is $47,580. So...

My cost to attend = 47,580 - 43,960 = $3,620

I recieved $3000 from outside scholarships already (which Penn DOES NOT take away and instead reduces my "self help" portion, which is awesome) and couple that with my summer job... I have a pretty sick package.

Loving it.

Can anyone explain to me how does Penn's $50,000 income thing work? Does that mean that if your family income is under $50k then you pay nothing???!
