Hard time taking test in college

So I am sophomore in college majoring in electrical engineering, and for some reason I complete forget/confus during taking the test in which I know the material 100%. I know it sounds kind of weird, but it’s very frustrating to go through this situation. I teach my friends all the materials on the test, because I understand very well understand the material and techniques to solve problems, and I go over with them on bunch of practice exams, and they end up with high 80s and I end up with 60s on the exams. I really don’t know what to do, the only thing I want to have is the same confidence about the material during the time I am taking the test and not stress as I have before taking the test. Any advice or experience will help alot, thank you for your time!

You’re smart enough to be accepted as engineering major. How did you tackle math and science tests in high school? How are college tests any different?

Check with academic support to see if they have any test taking strategy courses. This might include anxiety reduction techniques.

Also talk to the Counseling Center about test anxiety.

Just say to yourself don’t be nervous this is just one step closer to the degree and try some breathing exercises beforehand. I’ve found that some calm breathing (even as professor is handing out the test) helps calm me down and get my head focused. This helps me on stats exams as I am not very good at math, to keep calm and carefully work the problems out.
