Hi Im new here to the website and would like to know if any one here stuggles with test anxiety? I have always had a hard time taking test. In fact I have a test coming up this Monday that Im not too worried about but I have to score a 85% or better to pass.

All the time. I have never done well on tests (due to my adhd any little noise breaks my concentration and i loose everything). All you can do is study and hope for the best.

I, too, have test anxiety, and it doesn’t help that I only have 50 minutes to take the test at my university, which makes me feel like I have to rush. I haven’t had a 50 minute class since middle school, so I’ve been used to having an hour and 30 minutes or more to take tests (especially since at the former community college I went to before I transferred, some of the classes varied with the length of their classes so I could have anywhere from an hour and 30 minutes to take a test or 3 hours to take a test).

Overcome your anxiety by studying for tests beginning the first day of class so you are better prepared and by using your college’s services that help you figure out how to prepare for tests.

Tests freak me out beyond belief. I can’t concentrate in silence- and obviously, most classrooms can rival a graveyard during an exam. As a result, I end up focusing on every little noise and attempting to amplify it in my head.

The only advice I can really give (because honestly, I’m still struggling like crazy with this), is to study as thoroughly as possible. The more well prepared you are, the less nervous you should be. After all, if you know the material inside and out, there’s no curveballs the teacher can throw you.

thanks for all your replies I feel better already…school can drive you crazy. The fun and partys are all good but test really sober you up and then you wonder is it all worth it?

my mind tends to wander during tests sometimes, and I seem to have little control over it. I also tend to notice little improvement in test performance based on increased study time. Tests for me are a crapshoot.

Once I start taking a test my mind seems to switch information around and I end up picking stupid answers.

Like a lot posters on this thread, I fear tests as well. The absolute best solution to this is to study, study, study! Don’t procrastinate, just begin to study very slowly like 2-3 weeks before the exam. Take an hour of your time everyday to just review the material. I sometimes took my notes to the gym and looked over them, which helped a lot! If you do this for every exam and review consistently right before the exam, you should have no problem getting an A. Good Luck!!

Im starting to think the same thing too. I requested to take a test in a seperate room today to get away from the other students and Im not sure that was the best Idea. Yeah, it gave me peace and less distractions but It was almost too quite…plus I later noticed that a textbook was sitting on the table and I was tempted to look at it. but then I thought what if someone walks in. then Ill feel realy stupid. Yeah but being there all alone was a little nerve racking.

I took your advice and it really helped. I found myself repeating…“study this stuff inside and out”…and I did and It made anxiety take a long walk…

Mine as well weapon…thats what happened to me in class today. it was like I was knew the answer but my eyes were all f’ed up!

Yeah! I actually do better on free response/short and long answer questions and oral quizzes than actual exams because my mind doesn’t have anything to mislead it. For some reason my good ole brain likes to play tricks on me haha.
