Hardest majors to get into ...

What are the hardest and easiest majors (in terms of getting accepted) at Yale?
I'm thinking about doing chemical engineering....

I don't think many majors are selective... I know EP&E (ethics, politics, and economics) is, but I haven't heard about any of the sciences discriminating in who they'll take.

Best,
DMW

Really? I've heard that the sciences and pre-med are more selective... and that selecting a major that is more unpopular makes it slightly easier to get accepted
can anyone else confirm dmw? I'm hoping that picking a major in chem. eng or any other science won't affect anything

Harvard says major doesn't affect anything. Probably the same for yale.

I declared Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations and was accepted RD. People have always speculated that declared majors are last -ditch determining factors in the admissions process. That said, I think that since Yale College is so flexible about exploring new disciplines and such, it doesn't make sense that the admissions office would focus on prospective majors. I know mine has changed (in my head, at least) about twenty times.

But, my word is not law. Any other thoughts?

yea, i talked to my college counselor at the beginning of the year about it, and she said the major you list doesn't make that much of a difference. they look for diversity, as always, but the listed major doesn't do much - especially since most people who go to yale change their majors a bunch of times (or at least, that seems true anecdotally).
scott, is that you man? we really need to get off college confidential dude.

I think the only three with an application are

Architecture
EPE
and Cognitive Science

Cog Sci is relatively easy to get into but the other two are not so much.

You have to apply for International Studies, too.

And, yeah this is scott... giantoreo, huh? I have no idea.

haha, sorry scott - it's amira, your jsa bud. i forgot the oreo thing meant ambiguity.
you also have to apply to 4 year ba/ma programs, if you consider that a major.

I was right! I didn't want to guess and be wrong, but I had just been looking at your facebook profile and I saw your AIM name. Hooray.

And the five year BM/MM, music program! Application and audition.

And you're completely right. We need to get off of this site. :)
