harris hall?

I just got my room assignment. Just wanted to know if anyone could give me some info on the dorm. Pros/Cons, some pointers.

Pro's:
Close to the library -- close to the quad -- grandiose lobby

===========================================

Con's:
Old building -- rather dirty -- next to the hospital entrance, which is bad in the sense that loud ambulances pass right by

any feedback on dobbs?
i know the rooms are smaller than most, but how's everything else?
help!!!

I'm in Dobbs too!

Dobbs...small rooms, BUT you guys will probably have the strongest and largest sense of community. Because your rooms are so small, you're forced out and into the open...in the hallways. You guys will get to know everyone really quickly and soon.

Other positives: you guys are in the center of campus...1 minute walk to the WoodPec and the DUC; just a few minutes to the quad and just about everywhere else.

You guys have an awesome parlor with a huge piano just like Harris.

hey thanks about dobbs.
no chance on there being an elevator????
is there a place for suitcases?
can the beds be lofted?
if u move in early, will there be any move in help?
thanks so much

I would hate to live in Dobbs. I know an RA who didn't want to serve in a freshman hall, solely for fear of being assigned Dobbs.

The rooms are so tiny. It's almost inhumane. Beds are so close, that roommates sleep only several feet from one another. It's like Willy Wonka's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, in which Charlie's grandparents sleep in one bed together.

hey i'm going to be living in harris too, 4th floor. It sucks how far away it is from woodpec, where am I gonna lift

Calvin I can assure you that no two points on Emory's campus are really that far away. It's not more than a 5-7 minute walk. At least you will be 2 minutes away from the quad and library.

I'm looking at Harris Hall Floor Plans

It's seems that there's an elevator, but only on floors 4 and 5, with the lower floors having vending machines in the same area. Do the other floors actually have the elevator and how big is it?

the elevator reaches all of the floors.

besides the new freshmen buildings from this year and last year, harris hall is the next best option.

there is an elevator (on all floors)
the rooms are some of the largest for freshmen
and the location is great for classes and the library

so dobbs is horrid? wow. that's not a fun thing to hear.
what do people do with their bed to make it less of a drag?
help??

People who live in Dobbs almost invariably bunk the beds. Lofting, and putting your desk underneath, might be an option. When it comes to convenient location and the camaraderie with your hallmates, Dobbs is not horrid at all.

GET OUT OF DOBBS IF YOU CAN!!! lol... you can make it work, but you don't want to if you don't have to. I agree, most Dobbs halls are really social, especially the Pitt. My Dobbs floor wasn't that great, but it was probably just fluke...

I lived in Harris Hall my freshman year (the bottom 2 floors were freshman and the top floors were sorority girls)...it was then converted to upper classmen my next 3 years...I guess they decided to make it a freshman hall again. Its not dirty its just kind of old, and its within a 5 minute walking distance of basically everything on campus I really enjoyed it. Dobbs: Its been clarified that the rooms are very small, I wouldnt have been able to deal with it, some people can and really love it. I really feel that people in dobbs make strong connections with each other. It is close to teh DUC which means you can eat all the time. It is close to the woodpec so you can work off the pounds. It doesnt really matter where you live its who you meet and how often you get out! thats all that matters.

What's about Mctyeire.
Pro?
Con?

best old freshmen dorm. huge rooms, great location. and only about 100 residents.

cons - its old and can get humid in the summer, even with the a/c. i would still recommend it.

any feedback on trimble hall? and where are washing machines?

HAHAHAHA I miss being a pre-freshman...

Harris - used to be a 2nd year hall many years ago. Its singles are dark and a little depressing. Other than that, rooms aren't that bad and honestly not a bad hall.

Dobbs - VERY social, smallest rooms EVER... almost feels like a prison but because of this you will get to know your hallmates really well. + NO elevator.

New Turman + New freshmen halls = Highly recommended.
