My daughter is torn between the two. Love both schools, She has gotten into UCONN, waiting to hear from Hartt, so of course if she doesn’t get in, that will be an easy choice. And if she does get in, I am convinced the cost with any scholarship money will be the deciding factor. However, if the cost is similar, I don’t know how she’ll decide, we love them both!! Any insights? BTW, she is a Music Education major.
By no means do I want to discourage her, but is she aware of the extreme difficulty of getting a job in that field? It is nearly impossible in the state of CT. My daughter’s friend loved the music education program at UCONN and is an accomplished musician as well. It took her 4 years of working part time, working as a long term sub, being band director, and giving private music lessons before she just got a full time teaching position in CT.
If you are in state CT, the UCONN program is a solid one.
I appreciate your feedback, and believe me, I worry about job placement. Hartt claims 100% job placement rating and has an article on their homepage to give more info on that. UCONN, also has a great placement record, but of course, I worry. But since she has had a dream of being a music teacher since she was little, there is no talking her out of it. Perhaps as she gets through school she will find a different path, or she will be one of the lucky ones who gets a job, even if not her ideal, until something better comes along.
