Harvard 2016 Official Transfer Thread

@anythinghere I wouldn’t worry so much about the ACT score (I am on the same boat) because we are transfer students and even though they consider everything, I don’t think they emphasize on standardize tests as much for students who have been in college already because they already have your college transcript to see if you can handle their coursework. It isn’t the same as to when you apply as a freshman and you just have high school grades; that is when they NEED the act/sat scores. They may see your scores and wonder but they know not everyone is good at taking them and you can get a perfect score without measuring your intelligence, just your ability to take a test so they prefer actual grades.

Besides, if you lack in one area you can make it up by having a strong, compelling essay I’m sure.

I hope everything works out for you! I also applied to transfer for Fall 2016

@blackwidow22 Thanks! I had that train of thought as well. And I did explain it at some point in the application, so hopefully that helps.

From how it sounds on this thread a lot of really impressive people have applied! The competition is stiff, so I’m not expecting it. But I hope the best and wish you and everyone else luck!

@anythinghere same to you!! I wonder how many applicants there are this year and how many they plan to take, typically it has been less than 15 accepted. Hopefully they can increase that number this year hehehe

@blackwidow22 That would be ideal! I’ll probably go into shock if I actually got accepted. Even if I don’t make it in this year I’ll be applying for the Kennedy school for my grad education

@anythinghere Oh God, I think I will actually faint regardless of Harvard’s decision…just having that letter or email in front of me is enough haha. I also plan to go to Harvard for grad school, although for medical school. I don’t know how I can wait another month for Harvard’s decision…it is killing me hahaha

I just have to vent here about my situation with my midterm report.

I have all As and have maintained a 4.0. I wanted to demonstrate that with my midterm report. However, I sent the email out to one of my two online instructors last week to have her sign it. She has been so uncooperative. She send me an email finally on Wednesday but the file wasn’t even attached. Today, she is not answering her phone and sent me nothing even though she said she would try again today. I still have another online professor to send this to and I have to mail it by Monday for it to get to Harvard by April 1st.

It looks like it’s not going to get in on time, and that may have killed my chances…

I am just so angry about this.

@anythinghere Email the admissions now and let them know you’ll be submitting it a couple days late. I’m sure they won’t discard your application just because one portion is going to be a day or two late.

I thought a midterm report wasn’t necessary for transfer students. Did I miss something?

@AtBestBuffalo it isn’t necessary, it is optional to submit for transfer students. However, if it helps, then submit it

The midterm report is required for Harvard, Yale, etc. Stanford is one of the schools that doesn’t require it. I would email as soon as possible and communicate your situation to them.

This is what it says on the Harvard Applicant portal - "Midterm Reports: Please note that the midterm report is an optional item for transfer admission, however, should you wish to submit this report, it may be submitted through April 1. "

I called the Admissions Office and they “strongly recommended” it.

@AtBestBuffalo if it is recommended, I would submit it only if it is an excellent report, but it is optional

Yeah I would send nothing less than a 4.0 on the midterm report.

I said I would be submitting an arts portfolio and have yet to send it. Too late now? What are everyone’s thoughts?

Yeah it is too late unfortunately. You’re sending it almost a month after all materials were supposed to be at least postmarked.

Yeah it’s definitely optional - that’s what they told me when I emailed them.

@zwishcenzug They take the Midterm report until April 1st, and when I emailed they said they would do their best to look at material that comes in after April 1st. I am calling them today to explain my situation once again.

I wonder if they have started looking at our applications…anyone have any clue when they would start/if they have started yet?

Probably after April 1st. Regular Decision results are out tomorrow.
