The college admissions process is an unnecessarily long and stressful process. EA applications were due November 1, RA on January 1. Decisions for RA were end of March. Then the waiting list has drawn the process out another 3 months. If you read the posts, people are still getting in off the wait list at Harvard. From what I gather, Harvard has been accepting and releasing students waves, so those still waiting have a shot and the number remaining on the list is probably not nearly as daunting as it once was. Many of these students have worked long and hard for college admissions. If Harvard is someoneās dream school, why should that person give up on his/her dream when he/she still has a shot? People have the right to hope for the best. It isnāt over until you get the rejection letter. And if you have waited this long, what is another 10 days?
Thank you @m22boys ! We have purchased our plane tickets and reserved our hotels for Move in day and Parents weekend for the college our student choose from the fantastic list of accepted colleges. We are so very proud. Our studentsā dream is still Harvard and while not very likely at this point, it is still possible. In the meantime, he is joining groups and picking classes. I follow this thread to help me understand the process and timeline. I have enjoyed the celebratory posts and sympathized with those students who were released. Waiting for the definitive answer is hard. Not sure how many students are still left on the waitlist, another thread said 100 or so but not clear on where they gathered that information. It seems from past CC waitlist posts July 1 everyone will know the answer. Can anyone confirm that?
Weāre all pretty amused over here that we havenāt heard back yet. Totally totally psyched about where Iām going and all - but I mean, come on. Still no official word? (In total itās been 8 months since submitting my application. LOL.)
im a little bit confused because today is june 30th, a.k.a. the literal last day they said we would hear by, and iāve still heard nothing? what does this mean and is anybody else in a similar situation?
^^ For all those who havenāt heard anything to date: I would call Admissions and try to find out the status of your application. The phone number is āØ617-495-1551.
Ask to speak with an Admissions Officer, which may (or may not) be the person who answers the phone. Tell them youāve been waitlisted, but havenāt been offered a spot off the waitlist or a spot on the āZ-list.ā So, you were wondering: (1) Are you still on the waitlist? and (2) When do they expect to close the waitlist? I wouldnāt bother asking about your chances, as they wonāt/canāt tell you.
I called this morning, as gibby suggested, and was told that if you have not yet heard, as my student has not, you are still on the waitlist. I was also told that all decisions would be released by next Tuesday, the 5th. I asked only very general questions, but my impression is that there may still be spots, though not many. I hope everyone has a happy Fourth of July weekend and is prepared to be liberated from the waiting when it is over.
I just received a call this morning that I was admitted off the Z-list into the Class of 2021. My rep also said that a spot may open up in 2020, which in case I might be admitted into the Class of 2020. The official email for acceptance would be emailed on July 5th.
The man who answered the phone also said that all of the admissions officers were currently in a meetingā¦ So who knows, they could be deciding our fate right now!
I havenāt heard anything yetā¦ So how many of us do we think are even still on the wait list? Havenāt they already sent out rounds of both rejections and acceptances? Seems like it must be quite a few left if itās taking them this longā¦
I am still on it and heard nothing today. Iāve been watching this thread on and off but just set up a login. I looked at the thread from last year and it is a few days off because of the holiday weekend this year but it looks like there may have been one last rejection email that went out when they closed the list officially. Just a guess from comments made at the end of the 2019 thread.
Unfortunately, I think itās just a formality at this point. When my admission officer called me last Friday, he said the class was already full ā hence the Z-list offer. He did say they might go to Z-listers to fill the class if anything should happen or any spots open up though (e.g. 2020 person takes gap year or decides to withdraw).
One can assume different things, but they have to give closure to everyone somehow (which they said theyād do by today). If the Z-list is still open, even if the current class is already full, should they not have said something to those accepted/rejected for it?
I mean perhaps theyāre still offering Z-list spots, but he did clearly say to me that āthe class of 2020 is currently full.ā I do agree that they should be giving us closure though, and havenāt even gotten an email from them yet either which he said to expect. They definitely should be saying something, if not today then in the near future.
Folks, itās July 5th. If you havenāt heard anything by now thereās only a small percentage (maybe .0001%) that you might hear something positive in the next week. Itās time to let it go!
