Harvard and University of Pennsylvania chances?

I am applying to some selective schools, such as University of Pennsylvania and Harvard. What are my chances of getting in the undergraduate business program? I have been an entrepreneur since I was 9 (senior now), and have been involved in multiple businesses.

Here are some of my academics:

  • 3.5 unweighted GPA
  • New SAT score: 720 writing (perfect score on grammar section); 620 math
  • mostly AP classes
  • Capstone program which consists of AP Seminar and AP Research (in seminar you strengthen your writing skills; in research you complete a 5 month long research project and write a 5,000 word paper on it). I am working towards the Capstone Diploma, which very few people have since it is a new program.

Here are some extracurricular activities:

  • DECA participant - I started 10th grade, and have been going to state since; I was an officer junior year, and am the president now)
  • Do Something Club (president)
  • Food & Travel Club (VP of Marketing for 2 years)
  • Future Problem Solvers (went to state junior year - also my first year)
  • Interact (30+ volunteer hours through them junior year)
  • summer entering 9th grade I received a scholarship to go to Turkey for a month
  • summer entering 10th grade I received a scholarship to participate in the Young Entrepreneurship Program and received certificates from Capital One Bank as well as a US Senator (I also won 2nd place in a pitch deck competition)
  • summer entering 12th grade I interned under the US marketing director of an international, multi-billion dollar company (I have a recommendation letter to show for this as well).

Here is my business experience (just the highlights):

  • Entrepreneurship Specialization from University of Pennsylvania, which consisted of 5 courses (average grade: 97%)
  • “How to Change the World” course by Wesleyan University (100%)
  • more business courses such as those mentioned above
  • founder and president of a marketing company
  • launching another company and working towards obtaining a patent related to the business
  • cofounder of a social enterprise
  • cofounder of another company (science based)
  • founder of a nonprofit (on pause due to legal issues with age - very unique nonprofit and will be at an international scale when I relaunch it in a few years)
  • built a few websites

fix your math sat and you should be good

I’m not sure, honestly. You can have a long sheet, but at this stage in life people (namely college admissions counselors) are not looking at breadth; they tend to look at breadth. I think you should find a strong link between all of your activities and how they fit into your purpose/passion. Keep us posted on the results.

Your extracurriculars don’t seem very genuine. Starting 4 companies leads me to believe you spend very little time on each of them. Unless you have had extreme success from these companies I would say reject for Upenn and Harvard.

Your stats are rather low for these schools. You have business experience, which is good, but something about it seems off. There’s just so much and it’s hard to tell what each is and it’s hard to see your passion.

I’d say reject, if you had better scores your chances would be really good but your ECs are not enough to offset that IMO. Ivies look for both typically.
