Harvard chances for a B avg Hispanic girl?

Hi,
I’m just wondering what my chances are to get into Harvard (id assume pretty low, but im just checking.)
I’m a Hispanic girl with a 3.1 GPA, a 1210 SAT, 450+ hours of community service, a strong essay, i play 2 varsity sports (and am captain of one) and i have tons of extra curricular activities.
Thanks!
Macie

Chances are Harvard are incredibly slim for EVERY one of the incredibly brilliant people who apply.

Throw in a 3.1 and a 1210, and I can’t see it as a viable option for you, regardless of your ethnic background, your gender, or your EC’s.

Sorry, but I would look elsewhere.

You have 0 chance. Don’t even bother applying.

I wouldn’t be as harsh as the above poster. That said, I had a Hispanic friend who got a scholarship to Harvard two years ago. It’s not just your ethnicity that counts–he was Hispanic, and had close to a 4.0 GPA, and had a great SAT score. Your ethnicity can’t make up for low GPA/scores when your peers are earning Harvard stats in high school.

Harvard proves aid based on need, not merit.

Anyway, for the OP, according to the most recent common data set, 0.41% of enrolled students had a HS GPA<3.24. One should assume that they were seriously hooked, not a run-of-the-mill hook of being Latina.

There are many fine schools that may be right for you, so you should review this thread:

There will be many many applicants with two sports and tons of ECs who will have far higher stats than yours, and they will be denied. Being blunt, it’s not going to happen.

Don’t waste your time. Put your attention on the applications and essays of schools where you have a chance at admission. There are tons of good schools out there that will be happy to have you. What do you like about Harvard? Plenty of people here will give you suggestions if you need help creating your list. There is also a very active post on the parents’ forum for B students. Do a search and look it up. Great conversation.

thanks guys; i was looking for a blunt answer dont worry about being harsh!

@maciethe7 Another reason for not applying to Harvard isn’t just that you will not get accepted. If you somehow did get accepted, with your low GPA and test scores, it would be very difficult for you to “compete” with other students who were at the top of their class in high school getting perfect to near perfect grades. For many classes graded on a curve, unfortunately you may be on the bottom of the curve many times. Just for your own psyche, it would not be “healthy” to be in that kind of an environment.

you dont have a chance lol. I feel like you may think because you are hispanic you have some leeway but your stats are too low. I’d look into way less competitive schools

Don’t waste your time on applying to Harvard or any other Ivy based on your shared profile in the original post in this thread. For further emphasis, it is highly unlikely that you would be admitted, for example, to the University of Georgia.

You need to be more realistic. Have you asked your school college advisor for suggestions ?
