so, u r a junior or senior?! ur stats unforunately doesn't look THAT great as required for Harvard. But again, u never know! (mine is even worse than urs, so don't worry!)

if junior, still enough chance to boost, I'm just skeptical abt Harvard......

I am a junior. Those are the classes that I have registered for next year and the clubs I plan to join for next year. Its because my high school is so damn competitive.

How do my chances look for Brown, Princeton and Yale?

You won't be admitted to HYP, you don't have that 'something' or passion. You are quite intelligent though, I'm not sure why you didn't take more AP earlier. You don't seem like the Brown type, I wouldn't bother applying there. They place alot more weight on your 'personality' than on scores though. Try Schools like Northwestern or UCHI. You'd most likely recieve hefty scholarships and sure acceptance.

^ Don't completely listen to this person. Since you've got pretty good stats , I'd say you stand a chance. IF you get good sat scores. You can't tell sometimes.

Thanks LilBabySeaOtter. I didn't take any A.P classes because there weren't enough seats for me. 1/2 the people don't get their a.ps. You don't know what type of school I go to. The Princeton guy at the college fair said he understood that. What is with this 1MX guy. I saw some of his old posts and he is basically telling everyone they won't get accepted. Where does he get off to tell these people all that?

Dude, 1MX IS Harvard

Really? (10 chars)

God forbid.

"You're average, but you don't really have minority.
Sure you're black, but would anyone reading your application have any idea that you were black? Look at all of your opportunities with EC and sports. Tennis? Please, you won't be given minority status. I guarantee your family income is 100k+ a year. If so, you won't even be considered a minority. A MINORITY black would be your stereotypical inner city kid living on the poverty line, or a poor immigrant from Africa. I personally don't see you getting in, you could say your focus is debate, but from my expierences they will see a kid with no true passion and alot of mindless ECs."

That's what 1MX told me, I responded in turn. (My topic is on this page)

well collegehopeful,
you created post to ask ppl what your chances are at Harvard. I think that 1MX gave you an honest opinion..quite accurate too.

There are people with perfect SAT scores that get rejected. There are people with 10+ APs that get rejected. There are people who win international competitions and get rejected. When considering this, 1MX is right in predicting that you will not get accepted at Harvard. Stat-wise, it is not a huge exaggeration to say that there is at least one person like you in every school.

Of course, it is also not true to say that you have ABSOLUTELY no chances, but as I've said, it is HIGHLY unlikely that you will get accepted with your current credentials.

yeah, I think too that 1MX gave u a realistic answer..........I just can't didn't want to be harsh....which at the time is realistic :()

but definitely, u never know, if u can develop some hook.......I can't exactly answer what it can be, coz I don't know abt ur location, ethnicity..blah blah, so just try to look for something like that and develop ur app. u still have enough time!

Rejected, but don't take it personally, and keep it in perspective.

OP

for comparison

93 GPA with 2200 SAT at my son's school with a more rigorous course load than you and better EC'c etc.

Class rank 46/300+

got in - W&M, BC, Wake, UNC, Carnegie Mellon, Skidmore
did not get in - Dartmouth, Cornell, Williams, UVA, Tufts, Hopkins and Duke

for further reference - the athletic recruits to Yale and Dartmouth that I am familiar with have better stats than you posted

What is your class rank? #1? top 1%? top 10%? top 20%?

How many from your school typically go to HYP?

Does your school have Naviance - if so, you could graph yourself vs. your school's history which would probably be more useful than a chances thread here

It's all about that hook.

And what would the hook be?

something that's REALLY different! usu in the community involvements.........that shows terrible passion.

4 to 5 sent to Harvard every year although it might be more since naviance is not updated by some people. A couple 2100 and 93 average students have got in.

Sorry, but your ec's are kind of weak for Harvard.

Are they decent for other schools though?

INTEL WHAT?
intel ISEF? b/c thats a hook.
