I mean I wouldn’t say there’s never a way to tell. In other schools and other years people have found different methods. It’s never that obvious though and usually gets plugged in a few hours.
as an Asian female, I would argue that we are held to the same standards if you consider our relative privilege but this isn’t the place to talk about this stuff
does anyone know about when harvard mails acceptance letters? because if those arrive before the portal update we should be checking our mailboxes, right?
Yeah, but it’s extremely rare, so the energy expended trying to find it is akin to chasing rainbows.
@lvzdays No they mail them either the day before or the day of so no one will get the letter before it appears on the portal
Someone found out a way to tell if you’ve gotten into Stanford so chances are it works for other universities. But idk what the point is when there’s only a week left until decisions.
No they didn’t; they just think they found a backdoor.
guys… we aren’t even sure that this ‘backdoor method’ is confirmed true or not. stop stressing, please.
And having Asians get rejected with perfect stats doesn’t show anything. People get rejected with perfect stats across all ethnicities. Harvard have said many times before that they could fill the whole class with just people who got 1600 on the SAT if they wanted too! More people apply with a 1600 than there are places. The majority of applicants get rejected at every single percentile, even the majority of people with 1600 get rejected. When acceptance rates are as low as 5-6% (3% in RD!) absolutely no one should be ‘expected’ to get in. No one can claim they were discriminated against based on their stats alone. Tbh, you could argue that practically everyone is discriminated against as admissions are so random. If you stats are good, you might just rejected just based on the ‘feeling’ the admissions officers get from your app. It’s not a science - there is no formula or algorithm which will tell you who will get in.
@ammielove what is the back door method?
@ZBlue17 No, not at all, I’m an international student, and was somehow worried about financial aid as the documents I submitted were not complete it’s a little bit different here. When I contacted the office, they said that all information concerning financial aid statuses (F’aid decision, missing documents) will be sent by email on March 30.
Here is the definitive answer; Harvard Griffin Financial Aid Office will send F’aid decisions on or shortly after March 30 (regardless of what other universities do). No backdoors. And no way an F’aid email is the new Likely Letter.
Otherwise, that would be such an obvious blunder!
@ammielove what is that backdoor method!?
Have a great day everyone!
@RalphEST @nillupa
Well basically she called Stanford IT pretending to be a Stanford student. She claimed that she had lost her student ID, and asked them to look her name up and get her ID. She had an ID in the student database, and claims that they told her it was only registered two days ago. She asked whether only Stanford students have Stanford IDs and she says they said yes (plus people who have been affiliated with Stanford at one point e.g. summer school students.
No one knows of this is legitimate because no one else has tried it out, but it’s a pretty thorough plan. We can’t know if it works unless someone calls and gets told they don’t have a student ID.
@ammielove Haha wow that’s a very clever plan, but honestly I don’t think its worth the effort given the fact that decisions are only 4 days away X_X
What are people’s second choices, if they don’t get in to Harvard?
@HighFunctioningFangirl lmao Harvard’s not my first choice… I’d rather go to Brown. But if I don’t get into either, I’m hoping for Tufts or Berkeley.
@ap012199 Cool! I’m Canadian, so I’ve applied to a bunch of schools in Canada as well as Harvard. Probably going to McGill if I’m rejected this week. Also sorry about that…I guess that was a stupid typo on my part…I should’ve thought about the fact that not everyone has Harvard as their first choice.
Yeah, McGill is the likeliest option for me at the moment. Accepted there and Brandeis and a few other safeties, but McGill’s low price tag and attractive circumstances make it the top choice unless Thursday goes better than expected.
Feel confident about my chances
Does it mean anything that everything in my portal has been deleted?
Could this mean I got rejected and they deleted my files?
