@TVFIndia , Great,when did you get the interview call and which city are you from? Was it a alumni or skype interview?
All - the staff writer of the Crimson article confirmed that she has confirmation from the Dean that the results will be out on December 13th this year!
@MedSciBud where did the writer of the article
Mention that she got confirmation from the dean?
@CrimsonZa - via email
Ohhh cool
Man - she would not say how many EA applications this year. Says she will write about it on the 13th!
So seriously, has anyone gotten in without interviews?
@TVFIndia Which city?
@RIndiaR @rockies12 - I’m from Bangalore. Received the invite day before yesterday. Scheduled with alumni. Hopeful for the best.
Do you guys think that Harvard values more thoughtful, observant students, or more hawkish students who write with panache and vigor? I’ve looked at both my friend’s and my essays, and I am more of the former, while he is the latter. I tend to write deeply into my observations and thoughts and how they influence the way I think, while he writes stories that are more flamboyant and entertaining.
@fedfan1998 - I think it is the whole package and not just one piece of writing that determines the pathway into Harvard. I am sure if any particular piece of writing is very different than several others - the AOs will go Wow and probably read more of the application to see if the rest of the application correlates with that piece of writing. The chosen major (or concentration) may also come into play. Perhaps if there was just one slot and they were to compare two applicants only based on their essays - all other things equal - they will lean towards the latter example in your post, but that situation may be few and far in between. These are just IMHO - I am not an AO - nor do I have any admission experience other than applying to colleges now myself.
@fedfan1998 I don’t think there’s any way to know. Just write in a way that best represents you and stop comparing
@CrimsonZa LOL, thanks for knocking some sense into me
@fedfan1998 Does it matter…You’ll know in less than 20 days.
How many people do you guys think applied to Harvard SCEA?
I know it’s usually around 5k-6k, but I feel like it’s a lot more this year (maybe 6k-8k?) since Malia Obama is going to be attending.
This was from the Harvard Gazette in 2014:
“In addition to the 977 admitted students, 4,292 were deferred and will be considered again in the Regular Action process, while 541 were denied, 19 withdrew, and 90 were incomplete.”
So chances are, if we don’t get in now, we’ll just be deferred. Only 9% of completed applications are actually rejected EA (in 2014, at least)!
Am I the only one who didn’t realize how high our chances of deferral are?
@pineapple86 Oh, I knew lol. Deferral is, IMO, the worst option. I’d rather be straight rejected than to hold on to some morsels of hope.
At least we can tell people we got deferred from Harvard and not rejected Somehow sounds a lot better
Im curious as to why the Harvard EA admissions numbers are rising over the years…Are there more qualified students applying or more people who just apply because it’s Harvard and do it for the heck of it?
@krauser126 I think because most recruited athletes and legacy kids are applying early, and Harvard is accepting them
@fedfan1998 I don’t recall exactly but I think I read somewhere that the acceptance rate out of those being deferred is actually not bad
Let’s predict the stats for this year’s SCEA decision.
Here’s what I think it will be:
about 7,000 applied
920 accepted
600 Rejected
100 Incomplete
20 Withdrew
Rest deferred
