Harvard Class of 2021 SCEA Applicants Discussion

@Clareesi Yea but I can’t imagine there being a surge in the number of recruited athletes and legacy kids applying over the past 3-4 years? There have been 1k+ extra people applying EA since 2013 and less people getting accepted so those extra 1k people can’t be mainly recruited athletes / legacy kids.

@TVFIndia Wow that’s awesome! I’m from Bangalore too, and I didn’t get one. And I seriously thought that I had a good chance. :stuck_out_tongue:
So this proves you have a real shot. All the best for interview. Kill it.
Let me know how it goes.

Recruited athletes have always applied early (at least for the last several cycles). Additionally, the number of recruited athletes is a fixed number. The Ivy League limits each school to 230 per year, although I believe Harvard is closer to about 200, and other schools are lower still.

Guys just giving y’all an update on my interview in Beijing. It was NOT CHILL at all! Each interviewee in China gets 2 interviewers and I had to bring my ID&passport to cofirm my identity lol. They just kept coming up w/ follow up questions and one of the interviewers kept interrupting me. They didn’t even ask me to “tell a little bit about myself” haha. The interview was limited to 1 hr for everyone which I find to be a bit unfair. Anyway I have always been a pessimist so it perhaos went better than it sounds haha. I’m just glad I got it over with, hope this info helped

@MedSciBud Thanks for the info and the timer!

@kurtgu9903 congrats on getting an interview in China! Interviews in China are selective… not everyone gets one

For all US applicants who haven’t gotten an interview request yet, I just got one this morning! Don’t stress out about it, one still may come!

@MedSciBud That results thread you made is scaring me lol

@jmar98 Also note that interviews do not play a large role in admissions and that it is certainly fine if you do not get one.

@ whoever changed the name of this thread to have capitalized words: thanks

@SSundee I thought it was just me!! Yes, many thanks to that individual.

That would be me. You’re welcome.

@skieurope - thank for you changing the fonts on this one as well as the results thread. Can you influence the decisions also the same way? LOL

@MedSciBud LOL. I wish. :slight_smile:

@MedSciBud are you a skieurope in training ?

@CrimsonZa - not even close and no such goals either. CC currently is my stress-reliever and information source (sometimes).

Has Harvard stopped the letter-sending process completely? Checking the status online is fine but I was just wondering. Thanks!

Does every Canadian applicant get an interview ? & I’m applying from Canada, only got my interview last week, does that somehow increase my odds? Thanks in advance for the info!

Hello all! Stopping by from the Princeton EA Tread! Hope everyone is faring well in anticipation of their results. What drew you all to Harvard?

@NotIvyYet haha 'cause I got into a week-long exchange programme at Harvard and fell in love with it  also I’m an international applicant so Harvard’s like the only US college that I got to know in-depth

@NotIvyYet
I basically narrowed it down from a looonnnnggggg list haha. I didn’t get the opportunity to visit any schools out of my state, so I had to depend on research.

Disclaimer: I can be completely wrong about everything; I’m just going off of my research, knowledge, and vibe for each school.
.
On this list were all the Ivies, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and Duke.
I want to start off by saying that I was not really comfortable EDing anywhere, so if a school offered ED and not EA, it was disadvantaged (but I was really considering Columbia)
-I took off Dartmouth, Cornell, and Brown because I felt like I could have gotten into those schools in the Regular Decision Rounds (historically, anybody who is top 5 in my school gets into these schools as long as they apply).
-I have a friend at Duke, and he suggested that it wouldn’t necessarily the best place for me (but he loves it there!)
-I feel like Johns Hopkins wouldn’t give me the vibe I want for Undergrad (Based off of my friend’s experiences there thus far.)
-I’m not too fond of the Common Core curriculum at Columbia, and I feel like being located in NYC will take away from the college experience; however, I think I could potentially fall in love with this school since it is very exotic, but I’m not sure. I would have to visit the college before EDing.
-UPenn never really drew my attention.

  • I feel like Princeton would have been too stressful for me. I know they revoked their grade deflation policy in 2014, but I wonder if some teachers still subconsciously abide to this policy.

So Now we are down to Yale, Harvard, and Stanford

-I feel like Stanford’s environment is too similar to where I live, and I want something different.

Now it’s Harvard and Yale

  • Boston > New Haven
Yale might be a “friendlier” college (again, based off of research), but I chose ultimately chose Harvard because I felt like it would have provided me with more opportunities. From what I understand, it’s the better pre-med school

I considered UChicago last minute, but I didn’t want to make any impulsive decisions.
