Harvard Class of 2021 SCEA Applicants Discussion

@NotIvyYet Good luck to you!! I hope you get into Princeton

How are you all getting through the waiting? I need suggestions as to how to pass the time.

@semperubisububi1 by applying to other schools lol

@kurtgu9903 Very cool! Hopefully you make it as an international! That would be quite a feat!

@DoctorMD Itā€™s great that you were able to make such a difficult decision, especially starting from such a lengthy list. You must go to some sort of prep school no? My school would only dream of having auto-Ivy admits. Anyways, best of luck with Harvard!!

@NotIvyYet No I actually go to a large public school! Thereā€™s always one kid going to Cornell every year. Thereā€™s another public school ten minutes away from my high school, and they always have at least five kids attending Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford every year. But then again, they have more than 1,000 kids per grade level (mine has around 600-700 kids per grade). My school has never sent anybody off to a Top tier ivy, but we did have one accepted to Stanford a few years ago; she was a runner.

Have you allā€™s IDOC documents been completed processed? How long did it take? Mine have been uploaded for several weeks now but still havenā€™t been processedā€¦Iā€™m kinda worried that it might affect my admissionā€¦

@yawninglion Donā€™t worry. Itā€™s just for financial aid. This has nothing to do with admissions at all.
I submitted mine on the 31 of October, and it was processed around November 3.

@yawninglion - mine was processed in about a week. I read in another thread that when the poster called CB, they informed him about some missing document and as soon as he submitted those documents, they processed.

While @DoctorMD is correct that this wonā€™t hold up your admission decision, it is required for them to make a fin aid decision (if you are accepted). So may be worth contacting CB.

@Applyingfor2017 - what made you think H has stopped the letters?

@krauser126 - IMHO the number of EA applications are increasing because the number of people available to apply and the number of people interested in applying are increasing. Most colleges want to increase their number of applications, so they look good on their acceptance rates, so they market their colleges - getting even people who would have otherwise not applied - to apply. Also, because H is EA and not ED - several more people apply to H.

What other colleges are you guys applying to? Have you heard back from any yet?

@DoctorMD Oh wow! My school seems so miniscule in comparison. Weā€™re less than 400 in total (My class is only 88). However we arenā€™t completely unlucky with the Iviesā€¦ except for last year  But I hope to bring one acceptance to my school this year!

@NotIvyYet Does the size of your high school play a role into admissions chances? My class is about 115 people and weā€™ve only sent 2 people to Harvard in the past decade and not many to other Ivies.

@krauser126 @NotIvyYet
I feel like it does, but not by much. Obviously, it is much more significant to be #1/1125 than #1/50. But if youā€™re class size is much smaller, itā€™s not your fault and they wouldnā€™t necessarily hold that against you. Thatā€™s why class percentage is important as well.

My school has around 2,700 kids, and we have never sent anybody off to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or Columbia. It just depends.

@krauser126 I think so, definitely. Size of your school matters. But itā€™s like an tax bracket in that 1/300 is considered equal to 1/1000.

@faren1930 Idk what a tax bracket is :stuck_out_tongue: Could you elaborate?

Lol, I guess my parentsā€™ obsession w/ their kids having real-life exp has paid off. I canā€™t really explain it succinctly. Suggest you look it up lol. Gl to you guys; Iā€™m just browsing here.

@MedSciBud I heard somewhere that they stopped sending letters and have now completely reverted to the online portalā€¦ I was unsure because I didnā€™t see an option anywhere to ask for a letter to be sent, and I havenā€™t actually met or seen anyone who has gotten their decision in a letter the last few years.

Unless they are changing this year, acceptances still receive a letter, in addition to seeing the decision on the portal. Non-acceptances do not get a letter.

@skieurope - need clarification. Do non-acceptances get letter or no?
