Harvard Class of 2021 SCEA Applicants Discussion

Yay!!! @katz2410 I’m not from an international school - you? : )
I don’t think interviews are selective haha, so let’s not worry about it

Guys I am curious, did any of you submit more than 2 recommendations? I submitted 5, but on my portal I only have Teacher Recommendation 1 and 2. Is that normal?

@kandykoloredbaby yep neither am I!! Phew, SG was on the list for unlikely to get interviews but still I am kiasu so just checking in lol

@Theoddorre i submitted 3 (excluding teacher rec), but according to naviance (don’t quote me on this) the max is 3 teacher reco. And yea, I only see 2 teacher rec as well

@Theoddorre - yes - only the “required” ones are shown on the portal.

@katz2410 I sent 3 teacher recommendations and 2 other recommendations. I contacted Harvard pretty late for help (about a week ago) and the answer was pretty unhelpful, I guess they were in the middle of something more important (oh god).

"Greetings,

You may upload materials to your portal or have recommenders use the recommendation uploader until the day decisions come out."

Well, thanks I guess :expressionless:

@MedSciBud alright I see, thank you!

@Theoddorre I only submitted 2.

@krauser126 Well as an international I thought more things had to be explained in order for the admission officers to understand who I am (I am part of an honor-type class that brings the best students of the area together, and in an international section where we pass A-level-like examinations in Lit and History, plus a specialisation in biology during senior year, so somebody had to explain all this)

@TheCrimsonBulldog me too! Good luck to you though

guys I’m kinda curious why y’all chose to apply EARLY to harvard of all schools?

@Theoddorre Okay np. No need stressing now that decisions will be out 3 days from now.

@kurtgu9903 Honestly I applied early because, although I am 99.9% getting rejected/deferred, I could not see myself in any other schools. They just had everything I wanted, so I wanted to show them that I was really interested in them by applying early. However, my dreams were ruined when I heard that most legacies and athletes apply early and have WAY higher chances of getting in than normal people, so the chances of me getting in were and still are lower than what statistics say.

I do not think I regret applying early, but I regret not spending more time on my application. I found so many flaws in it that I will be happy with a deferral, so that I can maybe some other essays, etc.

@kurtgu9903 I applied early to Harvard because I can’t see myself at any other school. I want to get out of Ohio and I’ve visited quite a few schools throughout the country but literally none of them compare to H for me. The entire atmosphere and set up of the school outshines any other school in a heartbeat. I really don’t see myself getting in which is upsetting because I don’t know where else I want to go, but I definitely felt as if I needed to apply early to H because it is the only school I see myself at. Shrugs

I’m so nervous for these Early Action results! Really hoping I get in!

Do most of you guys have other people at your school applying to Harvard? I think I’m the only one so far.

@pineapple86 I am the only one applying to the US in the whole region

You’re an international applicant, right @Theoddorre? Best of luck to you!

I’m the only one from my school as well. Most of the high achievers apply to Princeton.

My S also submitted 5. Few people advised against submitting that many, but he felt each one is different. All 3 teachers (science, math and foreign language ) are also involved with important ECs and other two are from professors of nearby well known university.

Anybody here applying to the other HYPSM schools?
