Harvard Class of 2023 RD

@CornellCOE Harvard just tweeted that decisions are coming out today at 7pm EDT.

I know at this point this kind of talk is meaningless but I need to get it off my chest…

I honestly can’t stop wondering why Harvard/Yale didn’t give me an interview (I’m in the “limited interview” zone for Harvard, so according to what people say I’m basically rejected, correct me pls if I’m wrong). I have 1550+/4.0uw stats, and apparently my app was strong enough to get me into 4 T20s so far.

I know I should be grateful for those acceptances (I am) and I sound very annoying but… The fact that I wasn’t even given an interview just makes me really sad. The fact that I don’t even have potential.

Well I don’t think you should feel that way about yourself. The fact that you were accepted into 4 T20s should already prove it. And it might be that you are not a good fit to their campus even though you’re an excellent candidate. Honestly don’t fret about it. I’m an international student in limited interview zone and didn’t have an interview so I’m already preparing for my rejection.

There seems to be one primary definite about Harvard admission: 1) You definitely will not be admitted if you did not apply. So, if your application is complete then you have done all you can do for this process. 95% of all applicants can not be offered a place. But also remember that you have worked hard to give yourself a shot at this. I sincerely hope that everyone who has applied is proud of their effort. You are going places and Harvard can not stop you.

Hi everyone, I’ve been following this thread since November when I applied to early action and got deferred. I have a few things to say that will hopefully help those of you who are having anxiety about the whole thing, I myself am having it. Note: these are only my speculations based on what happened to me and what I’ve read in here. First, I received two interviews from the same alumni. The first time was extremely weird nothing could prepare me because he was testing my personality and how I react to touchy topics. Thankfully I am an extremely chill person and can talk about anything. Which we did. Topics included quantum physics, more science, politics, and much more random things. It wasn’t actually him getting to know me, just how far he could push my buttons which wasn’t at all because he told me he gave me an extremely high score for great roommate. The second time he actually got to know me and all my accomplishments and passions and said that I was a wonderful person to talk to and be around. So in conclusion this interview does give me an advantage because I don’t have the high academics and scores compared to everyone else. I have a 4.5 gpa, and am valedictorian of my school, but I took the sat 5 times and received a super score of 1300. I am Latina and Polish, and am majoring in engineering who comes from a low income familiy in a small town. It’s really no shocker that a lot of the applicants are similar. But if you have those high scores and gpa and background all clearly lined out in your application, an interview may not be necessary because they already know you through application and know that you can succeed. I feel the purpose of an interview is to see how much someone like me can balance out the personalities and scores and future grades and everything of a class full of geniuses. Sorry for all this typing, lol.

@njf231 May I ask why you got 2 interviews? My daughter was also an ED deferred but only received one interview. We haven’t received anything from Harvard since so aren’t optimistic for today.

Good luck everybody! Hopefully we all get in!

i didn’t get one with from Harvard or yale it was kinda like a soft rejection @MissBagLady

I am not sure why I got another interview. I remember the person who interviewed me called to congratulate me on not being rejected early action, and said we will schedule one after Jan 6th or so to update my profile and add to the notes he made last time. I have no idea if it was something my alumni just does or if it was sanctioned by admissions.

I am also not optimistic because I really don’t know what to expect. I don’t want to say yeah I think I got it and be completely crushed if I don’t get in. So better to think negatively and be surprised than positively and be discouraged. At least that’s what everyone says.

@njf231 thanks for the reply. You sound like a strong applicant. I wish you luck and hope you get good news today!

Thank you, I hope your daughter gets in as well!

does anyone know what time it comes out today

7pm?

7pm EDT, 6pm CDT, 5pm MDT, 4pm PDT

Yeah, 7 pm EDT

I know it’s late in the game, but can anyone ease my anxiety and shed light on what your chances of being accepted are with a 1490 SAT?

@bostonstudent1 i think the average last year was a 1520, but don’t worry we’re all going to find out our chances of admission in a couple of hours.

@bostonstudent1 Our son had a 1450 and was admitted EA - good luck!

@bostonstudent1 It’s a good score and you have a good chance :slight_smile:
