Do top schools go to a lot of schools or just to some of the top high schools in a region? Who usually comes to talk to kids? What do they usually do there? thanks for the help

Well Penn came to my school, which isn't that great. I'm guessing it depends on the relationship of your high school to the college, though it probably does have something to do with the typical caliber of the students.

Usually it's the admissions' officer that's assigned to the region that comes. They pretty much just speak a general FAQ and take questions.

i see that's cool and they just set up during lunch or something?

I think Harvard makes 1 stop in my state... and that's it.

Wow so this is a pretty big opportunity... they come here tuesday X_X

has anyone had experience talking to admission officers? do they expect u to have questions beforehand, etc.

^Yes they do. I wasn't very good at that part lol.

Can't say for sure that this is the case in all instances, but in Harvard visits to high schools that I'm familiar with the effort was largely a URM outreach. All are welcome to listen, but the main focus was to inform minority kids about Harvard and convince them to apply.

I highly doubt this since a HUGE amount of our school is either white or asian so I highly doubt this is the case. There are other schools in the area with a much high minority proportion.

bump.......

My older daughter went to a day private school. Almost all top schools' regional representative came to her school. It is a good opportunity for you to meet the regional rep. Make sure you speak with him/her after the session, get the rep's contact information. It would be good if the rep could remember you. The rep will be important later on in the application process.

I see, just ask them if it's possible to get their contact information so you could ask questions later on in the application process?

Visits can really vary, it will either be an admissions officer or very possibly a current undergraduate who does like a ten school tour from their hometown area.

Hopefully it's an admissions officer :)

We had Stanford Admissions person come once. Our school is in Socal too. Which is 8 hours away driving distance from Stanford...

our school is a coast across harvard :)

tomorrow's the big day
