So I got deferred from Harvard, and I'm pretty sure my GPA this semester has dropped by almost 0.3, which means my cumulative GPA dropped too.
Is that going to kill my chance for RD? :(

Well, somewhat. :/

Out of 3200 deferred applicants, only 100-200 will likely be accepted RD. Half the freshman class is already filled. You didn’t stand out in a group of 5,000 EA applicants, so why would you fare better in a group of 30,000 RD applicants?

I am pretty bummed and pessimistic right about now (DD was also deferred), but I would say that getting deferred indicates a strong likelihood of denial in April.

If there’s nothing else that’s changed your application (for the better) or that will change your application before March, then likely, yeah. Sorry.

The answer is that it might and it might not. It depends on how hard our curriculum is this semester, among many other things. If you are taking an incredibly hard schedule, it might not not hurt at all. If you’re taking it easy this semester, it could hurt. A drop of 0.3 probably means that you got one B, which is not going to end your chances at getting in to Harvard.

There’s nothing you can do about this now, so work on other applications, and makes sure that you have a broad mix of safeties matches and reaches - the same advice that should be given to any student applying to Harvard.
