<p>what happens at these receptions (local held by local harvard club)?</p>
<p>i am confused as to whether this is just a "come meet people and enjoy some refreshments" or if i need to be on guard for admissions stuff.</p>

<p>That sounds like fun (what region is this?) -- I'm guessing just be yourself, don't say things you wouldn't say to your grandmother, and be thankful :)</p>
<p>My son was just to one. According to what he told me afterward, it was like a big house party, with a video playing about Harvard. There were most of this year's applicants from our state there, several younger students who have been to information sessions before (that's apparently how my son got an invitation), and various current Harvard students and Harvard alumni. It was informal and not notably evaluative.</p>
