Harvard IB Diploma Requirments

Hey guys,
Anyone here a old IB applicant that was accepted into Harvard? If so, what was your entire predicted (be sure you separate core points). Right now, I have a 38 predicted without core.... Would this be a good score?

I believe that many IB applicants listed predicted scores within the results threads. Many predicted 44/45 although I don’t have the slightest idea what that signifies given my general ignorance of the program.

Is IB really the same as AP in terms of challenge and course rigor? As a full IB diploma candidate, I find it difficult to perceive AP classes possessing the level of toughness IB puts candidates through. Honestly! Any opinions?

And OP, that would imply that you are getting four 6s and two 7s. I’m not sure if that is a predicted score Harvard would be inclined to accept.

I totally agree with you mickjagger. I did both, and I seriously don’t even think that there is a competition… (btw, what’s your acronym for OP?)

“OP,” in the context of public message boards, denotes “Original Poster” (the individual who created the thread) or “Original Post” (post #1), depending on the manner in which it is employed.

I have heard that colleges like the IB program because of its structure (similar to the structure of an actual college curriculum). If you have a structured program of some kind, you may be at some advantage. I am not in the IB program, but I am in a similar program. I find that pure AP is nice in that it gives students a lot of flexibility. IB’s structure makes it much more rigorous.

I think colleges are largely ignorant of the rigor of IB compared to AP and aren’t inclined to prefer one over the other given that IB programs exist in such small numbers. Also being in IB, however, and having taken several AP classes/exams, I would agree that the structure of IB is more difficult, as one can’t opt out of taking a class in a weak area. Chem HL is my application’s weak spot.

IB Diploma is much more rigorous than AP…and IB is just more difficult period. I don’t know how colleges equate an HL 6 or 7 to AP 4 or 5 (esp. considering if you need a 60% on the Chem AP exam to get a 5…). IB is much more challenging than AP. I don’t think there is a required score
