Harvard Interview

So. I received a call from someone - I assume that it's a harvard alumni - who would like to interview me. I was under the impression that they didn't do interviews for transfers. Has anyone else been contacted?

Should I accept an interview? I'm not particularly fond of or terribly good at them. Will it weigh heavily in my application?

I was contacted by the admissions office and they asked to interview me. Supposedly, its a good thing - it means they're interested in you. I've heard that people who are interviewed have a 50/50 chance of getting in, which is much better than everyone else.

wow....good luck

Well, do you know how many people get interviews? Do you know for a fact how many people who got an interview got in? No. This is a typical CC speculation. As the old quote goes "people can make up with statistics to prove anything. 14% of people know that."

Someone spoke to an admissions officer about it.

I don't trust nattiebee and neither should you. Call Harvard and ask them abut the number of transfer students that turned them down last year. Call to hear them laugh. Supposedly nattiebee was one of them and also the only one who got her decision way earlier than everyone else. When she realized that it was too early for her to announce her "acceptance", given that nobody was going to hear for another several weeks, she said that she called to expedite it for some dubious reason. Allegedly, she got a response even before the voting process had even started; the mandatory voting process that all applicatnts - from sure admits to the ones who barely have a chance in hell of getting in - go through.

Later in June nattiebee inquired about getting off the waiting list.

Makes me question her list of EC even more.

I'd say lets just forget about it, but it's not going to change any thing and if this is your form of venting and dealing with deadlines, then whatever.

And whats this talk about these 'celebrities'?

hmm nm, I guess somebody deleted their post...

Nspeds has been venting for almost a year now.

From somebody that was a transfer student and then came to work in the admissions office:
"When did I hear about my interview...hmmm...I wore a dress with long sleeves, but no coat...and there were leaves on the trees. So I guess it must have been sometime in April.

Of the transfer cohort that came in with me, about half were interviewed and half weren't. We weren't able to figure out a pattern there, although there was lots of speculation. Of those that were interviewed, they pretty universally had experiences like mine (in other words, their interviewer loved them)."

But back to my original question: is this important? Should I avoid interviewing if I can? Blah blah blah?

Natibee,
I was interviewed last year,, I guess I was the only one out of the 20 that didn't make it..lol

As far as I know, interviews are given to about 200~300 students. That's still a significantly small portion of applicants. However, you guys do have good chances of admittance, as everybody says. I applied again this year, but did not get an interview this time around.. I guess they'll reject me again..

Nutella, I suggest that you muster up courage and do the interview.

Thank you for that wonderful contribution to humanity.

I think you should definately go to the interview. You have been invited to do so, and that can't be bad; you rejecting their offer might be.

If you go be sure to wear a burgandy sport coat and adopt a new england kennedy like accent ;) Good luck!

Clearly that's your job. You have made this place so much better by acting like an ass.

look out, martini, he's gonna go after your grammar soon enough...

He's been there and done that. It's funny because we both know that I am foreign and it was like a blow below the waist. It's also funny because I was the only person of my class who tested out of freshman english. I guess I should have taken it regardless, huh?

I've also applied to harvard as a transfer this year, and I just got an email yesterday, actually, from a Harvard alum, requesting we meet for an interview next week. Since you guys haven't posted here for a few days now, I was just wondering whether anyone else has been contacted for an interview. thanks
