If I dont get a skype interview, does this mean I am rejected?
What type of applicant are you? Are you applying from the U.S or are you residing abroad? Harvard’s website says that the lack of interview will NOT hurt your application.
I am an internatiional applicant. Yeah harvard’s website says so. but it seems like every international applicant who was admitted received an interview request.
Internationally, it might be different. Simply, I think that there is not enough alumni to conduct interviews for everyone. This MIGHT, and I am saying might mean that they prioritize interviews for applicants who have better stats and profile due to limit in interviewers. Again, Harvard’s admission is holistic so having or not having an interview will not break you. This is just speculation. Perhaps others could give more insight into this?
P.S: If you look through the threads, you could see similar topics that have already been posted and answered.
Not getting an interview doesn’t equate to a rejection. If you live out of the states, then they may simply not have enough interviewers for forieng students.
Thank you paul, I also force myself to think like that. however it seems when they really want to admit a student, they make a skype interview. I am curious whether there has been an international applicant who was admitted without interview.
Don’t worry.
In fact, interviews are FAR LESS important then your essays scores and GPA. They are not gonna help you much.
However, failure to attend interview OR giving a lousy interview can definitely hurt you.
The interview can only help you unless you screwed up pretty hard. Not having an interview will not hurt you in any way
I see you guys’point. I am just afraid that not being offered an interview means they have already thrown the application :(( for internationals
But OP – you have to know that when you hit the “submit” button that ~97% of internationals will be turned down. Right? Disappointing-- sure. Devastating? Shouldn’t be.
I concur with T26E4, when I submitted the application, I was prepared to be rejected outright. No matter what my emotions tell me, statistics which is science says that the odds are not in my favor. Only luck or a miracle. Thus I would suggest you do the same, always assume and expect to be rejected.
well I am not obsessed about the result. I am just trying to understand whether they offer interviews by prescreening the applications. thats all. please help me in this point. I dont need to be reminded of acceptance rate as if I had asked it
Some say they do (internationally) but the Harvard website says that there’s simply not enough or no interviewers in the area to cover you so not having an interview will not hurt you. You can check the list of countries in Harvard’s website
by anecdote, it appears that for some countries, they’ll target the most interesting applicants and try to interview. Which countries? I don’t know. Some countries have no interviewers assigned whatsoever – yet manage to get an accept or two.
@T26E4 For countries that do not have interviewers, they conduct interviews via Skype, and it seems that they do so selectively.
What country are you from?
Im in the USA. I’m only passing along what I’ve heard on this forum from previous years. It doesn’t surprise me that H would use its limited resources to interview a select few. That’s how it goes, I suppose.
@T26E4 Sorry, I seem to have made a mistake. I forgot to tag @avalonian before that question, which was directed at her.
@avalonian where are you from?
What if other applicants from your country are called for an interview and you are not? That should mean that you are part of the 97%. @avalonian I am probably a part of the majority, so no worries. And even if I get rejected, which I will, I know that there are a lot of people who are feeling the same emotions. :)>-
