Harvard Interview

Hi everyone, I am from Scotland and just got a call to arrange an interview for Harvard University this Saturday. I am a bit panicked!! I just wondered whether anyone knew any info about what these interviews entail as my knowledge isn’t that strong.

any tips on dress code? I was thinking just jeans and a nice shirt but I don’t really know what they are expecting!

how far should i read up on Harvard...apart from the obvious about what my favoured course is like etc...what else would i really need to know!?

Apart from the obvious questions such as

Why Harvard? Why would Harvard take u? what’s special about Harvard? are there any other Harvard specific questions that really can b asked?

Any other tips on what to know?

Thanks very much for your time

Although I havnt taken interviews, but from my experience, I think ur being too nervous..the interview will b like ''informal'' type..(it will appear 2 u like that..)..but this is where the catch is..they will ask bout harvard..but they will b more interestd in knowing ur personality rather than Harvard specific questions..just BE URSELF..n u will do nearly perfect.....

the interview is very normal unlike Oxbridge where the interview counts toward your admissions, the interview for US college is just a chat with an alumni of the university its basically a chance for the university alumni to get to know you as a person, like mine for harvard last year it was like what do you do in ur spare time and stuff

Where is the interview to take place? If it's at a cafe or an informal area, jeans and a shirt's fine; if it's in someone's office (for instance my brother's was in the Dubai Government offices, and I had an interview for another college in an investment bank), then a suit would be more appropriate.

Be prepared to talk about yourself, what your interests are, the things that make you distinctive.

The interview's very informal, an opportunity for you to have any niggling queries or doubts that you have clarified. It essentially serves to add a human aspect to your application.

Best of Luck, be on time! :D

its just at the interviewers home! so i guess neat jeans and shirt will b ok?

also, is it just going to b questions like what will u bring to harvard etc etc....its very hard to differenciate yourself from everyone else isnt it! everyone will say the same thing....eg. personality athletics adademic..i can give it all to harvard!! very cliche'd

what do u guys think?

He'll also primarily ask you to tell him about you; the first part of the interview's normally about that. That's where you set yourself apart. The interviewer isn't going to ask for things that the admissions committee will already see; he's going to attempt to showcase and gain an insight into parts of you that can't be put down on paper.
