Harvard RD Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@TheWaffleMan149 - Yeah, they’re pretty cool beasts!

@Foodlover001 - STS semi + ISEF grand prize

@Anonymoose3 : that’s amazing! Congrats!

To everyone getting discouraged about “low” SAT scores, I was accepted to Stanford University, UC Berkeley, CMC and I received a likely call from Yale with an 1880 SAT score. Standardized tests can only tell you so much about an applicant, they look at so much more :slight_smile:

Congrats on your acceptance @SeattleChick ! :slight_smile:

Congrats!

retreats into corner and looks for cardboard boxes

@SeattleChick Congrats! Care to post your stats?

@SeattleChick Congrats! That truly shows the power of holistic admissions… colleges like Harvard and Stanford aren’t looking for numbers. They’re looking for people. :slight_smile:

As everyone said, congrats @SeattleChick!

That Stanford rejection hit hard…

@reach2020 - I hear you. Being a legacy kid even made it worst for me.

Guys, I’ve been rejected from every single college I’ve applied to except my safeties. My heart will be so so so broken if I don’t hear some good news on Ivy Day.

@SD2020 Damn, good luck with your other unis though!

I’m an international who needs FA so I know I should have anticipated a rejection, but well I applied cause I had hopes…

@mdorbust don’t be discouraged by decisions (I’m being very hypocritical right now), just focus on whatever comes. Good luck though!

@reach2020 same here…it physically hurts

@CharliGibbons Do you know what physically hurts? Having the flu while waiting for college decisions. XD

Having the flu always hurts. Sorry @Honeyraven ! Rooting for you to get better soon.

Yes, feel better @Honeyraven !!

Hope the flu goes away @Honeyraven !

Thanks, @whitespace . Rooting for you to get into the college of your choice whether it’s Harvard or another school.

At this point I’m too exhausted to feel anything about college admissions. Though that might also have something to do with the fact that I didn’t make it into the honors school at one of my safeties. That kind of threw me. So far, nothing has worked out quite perfectly for me this college admissions season, and the longer this goes on, the more I’m convinced the entire thing (at any level, not just Ivy) is a crapshoot.

I’m just trying to learn to be grateful for whatever I get and to trust that I’ll end up wherever God wants me to go.

Best of luck to everyone, really. I’m rooting for you all.

Thank you, @hola1997 and @waffleman . I’ve always appreciated what you two have contributed to this forum, by the way.

@mdorbust I hear you, and empathize. I’ve paid attention to some of your updates on other college threads and have winced for you. My son is in a similar situation to you, and is also absorbing the rejection of MIT, Duke and now Stanford. He got waitlisted at UChicago, which is actually the school out of all he has applied to that he would most like to attend. He really thought his chances at Duke were good because one of the admissions officers called our home to ask a question and asked that the response given be put in writing and faxed specifically to her. But he is waiting now for Harvard, Princeton and UPenn without a lot of expectation that he will get any admits given the track record so far.

Hang in there. I know it’s super disappointing and you’re right - the college admissions process is pretty crazy with the amount of applicants applying to each school. My son’s considering taking a gap year and applying again this fall (assuming Ivy day does not yield any yeses) but much earlier this time around. Part of the possible concern with his applications now is that most of them got turned in at the very last minute. He is otherwise a strong candidate. 4.14 GPA, 2230 SAT with perfect score on the CR, fantastic LOR’s, great essays, interesting EC’s and excellent interviews where he really clicked with the interviewers. Harvard especially. He kind of bombed the SAT II subject tests. No Noble Peace prizes or astounding accomplishments on an international level, but one wouldn’t think you’d be denied admission everywhere for lack of that.

You sound like a strong student for admission, too. The competition is crazy. I hope you eventually find the place you’re looking for in college and in life. Everything is all real and up in front of you right now with the rejections (ouch!) but corners get turned, seasons change, unexpected things can happen, and odds are very good that you will really like where you are a year from now. In the meantime - hugs and know that there is a really neat guy your age out in California who knows exactly what you’re experiencing (among many others!) and try to hold on to what you already know, I’m sure - that your identity is not defined by numbers or college acceptance decisions. That goes to anyone else reading, too, who is also experiencing the let down of these rejections. Your whole lives are in front of you, God willing, and the possibilities are endless.
