Does anyone have any info on this?
S13 has been invited and has been asked by the coach for his transcript and test scores.
Good sign??

sport? always a good sign that they’re interested. respond with the information they requested and he should also send a letter of introduction - some background on his athletic interests and progress, his academic interests and other info that lets the coach get to know him a bit more. my son is a recruit for Harvard 2016. Good luck!

Thanks Lioness4
The sport is Track. We are planning on going in Aug for the visit as Harvard is at the top of S13’s list.

Any and all advice is much appreciated :)

Send a copy of the transcript to date, SAT scores and a short letter of intro (contact info) , and sports stats as soon as the school year closes. The transcript does not have to be stamped official–yet should be a clean copy.
This info can be used for a pre-read should your student-athlete be a strong contender.

The coach can call after July 1 (your student is a rising sr?)

Official visits are offerred to students the coach may want and who pass the initial pre-read test with admissions.

Good luck! :)

If you can make it work I would try to go while Harvard is in session … one, to see the school while students are around … two, so more potential teammates are around.

I haven’t heard of Harvard “Recruiting Days.” Is that an ‘official’ term with an organized program? When are they? August seems a little late. I’m familiar with “junior days” at other ivies which were some organized program to introduce the university and program to potential recruits, and I guess, check out the recruits.

From what is sounds like, the “Recruiting Day” is for the Track and Field program only.
Tour of the school and Track facilities. Meet and great with the Coaches, etc.

I would like to think that the Admin will like what they see:
4.8 GPA
35 ACT score

1 or #2 overall in a class of 500+

His times compare if not best some of the current Track members from what is listed on their Roster page.

In any case, he will be sending everything tonight after practice. And I will be keeping my fingers crossed ;)

Harvard classes are done for the semester-- all you will see are zombies walking to and fro from Lamont Library–NOT a pretty sight.

I think MDMom1314’s numbers are a bit narrow. Check out the Athletic Index, which is explained though out CC. If your son is a recruit–or recruitable-- a number above 220 (the number has gone higher in recent years) will be academically fine, from the kids of whom I have heard this year.

Etondad: Thanks for the insight! I will make sure to check out the Athletic Index.

Well, if he’s ranked 1/500, he’ll get the full 80 points on that front. A 35 on the ACT WITH WRITING should add another 159 points, maybe even 160, so he’s well ahead of the Academic Index of 220. Now, for Harvard and other ivies, he also needs two SAT subject tests.

35 was with writing for the ACT.
He is taking 3 SAT subject test on Sat. Thinking he needs at least a low 700 score on these, but I could be way off base.

He’s fine academically - now the question is how his track times measure up.

110H: 15.48
300H: 40.1
400M: 50.0
Can’t remember what his split is in the 4x1.

He has been sidelined for a few weeks with a strained trail leg. Found out that years of Football (since he was 6 at the LB position) had his alignment out of whack which was weakening his trail leg. So, the past 4 weeks have been filled with weekly adjustments, PT and acupuncture. Happy to say that he was back running 300’s on Monday in the 36’s again. Should be back to hurdling next week with a much stronger stride and balance And just in time for Championship season.

Looks good! Harvard has a 400 guy who goes 47.5, but he’s a senior - and that 15.48 would’ve almost qualified for Heps finals last year.
